... to in the (Cubs) front office (Tuesday) morning. I don't know for a fact, but my guess is he hired most of those people, and in any organization, it's who you hire, who you retain and how you have them grow in your business. That's the most impressive thing to me."
Isn't that something you'd ask in an interview?
There's some more at the Daily Herald about Matsui and Woody, if you're into that sort of thing.
There's another Matsui piece at theSun-Times website if you're really that interested. ...

Good News/Bad News Day

Good news: the Cubs' offseason plans are not going to change with the departure of John McDonough. Bad news (from the same link): the Cubs are talking to Kaz Matsui. Matsui's not a terrible player, but this makes sense ONLY if they intend to play him at SS and make Ryan Theriot the top infield utility player. That'd be an upgrade. It also may make sense as a lure to Kosuke Fukudome to come to the Cubs (the same link also says Fukudome will be meeting with his US-based agent next week). Good news: the Brewers are about to sign Jason Kendall, ...

Coffee Shop Encounter with Jim Hendry

Coffee Shop Encounter with Jim Hendry You may have noticed the The Sun-Times report that Jim Hendry was in Los Angeles and had dinner with free agent Kaz Matsui and his people last night. L.A. happens to be my neck of the woods and in one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments, I happened to run into Hendry while getting my morning coffee at the Coffee Bean on Pico/Smithwood in Beverly Hills . I couldn’t resist striking up a conversation… ——- (Busy coffee shop, about 6 people in line waiting to order. I stroll up and notice a older, Caucasian ...

... option for 2009. Don’t know how much he’ll make yet. The Cubs get a sandwich pick in the 2008 draft since Jason Kendall was a Type B free agent and the Brewers signed him before the deadline to offer arbitration passed.
Kosuke Fukudome is apparently looking for a 3-year, $30 million deal. That’s a pretty good rate and if it doesn’t go higher than that, I’m OK with the Cubs signing him.
Hendry and Kaz Matsui met yesterday.

Cubs interested in Kaz Matsui instead of real talent
Published 11/26/2007 by Pete Harvey at Cubs Loyalty
Yes, it's been a while since I've updated this page and for good reason. Dealing with the postseason outcome was too infuriating. Now months later I think I'm over it. Well, the Cubs are up to their old tricks and cheap-spending tactics again or so it seems. Rumor has it management is considering offering a deal to Kaz Matsui. Again, I understand where this is going. The infielder had a few hits in the playoffs and now the geniuses operating the franchise think he's a good candidate to replace someone on the infield. Dead wrong as usual fellas, this guy will only be taking up ...
