If he wins with anything resembling the current squad, he's a genius.  If he loses, he probably gets another chance elsewhere.  Either way, he keeps the $24 million.  Not a bad deal.

I am hoping that to bring him in Walsh has a plan to redo that team, cause to waste so much money for a HC and then leave him with that is just wasting money. Then again, the Knicks are very good at wasting money!

I hope D'Antoni doesn't regret this, even with the $24 million.  If the Suns have to lose him, I was hoping he'd go to the Bulls.  That would have been a better fit.

Mike D'Antoni left a team with Steve Nash, Shaquille O'Neal and Amare Stoudemire on it for one with Stephon Marbury, Eddy Curry, and Zach Randolph on it. Yup, that makes total sense.

As a lifelong Knick fan, I'm disappointed, but it obviously can't get worse. I just think this is a bad fit.

A bad fit? You're going from Isiah Thomas to Mike D'Antoni, how can that be a bad thing? The Knicks aren't going to be good next year, but in a couple of years D'Antoni can turn that team around.

I'm not worried about the fit in coaching style. It's a given that they'll blow up the team, this just helps to prioritize who goes first.

It's easier to blow up a team than to actually do it. Are there any takers for Randolph? For Marbury?

Don't Let Him Tell You It's Not About The Money
Published 5/10/2008 by Matt Clapp (noreply@blogger.com) at Sharapova's Thigh
Because it's all about the money, and I can't blame him. "Him" is former Phoenix Suns head coach Mike D'Antoni, and the new head coach of the New York Knicks. The Knicks handed him 24 million dollars over 4 years to revamp their pathetic basketball team. You just can't turn down that much money to coach a basketball team, even if you know you have just about zero chance of doing anything successful with them. While there are reports that the Chicago Bulls were indecisive as to whether or not D'Antoni was the right coach for them, or more specifically worth giving a contract ...
