It is amazing how quickly your status can change in the NBA.     He deserves the boot--the Suns were awful versus the Spurs.

It's not fair that Kerr traded for Shaq and totally ruined his system, and probably the chance for the Suns to ever win a title, then made D'Antoni his sacrificial lamb.

This report has not been confirmed. Steve Kerr, in fact, denies it. I think Phoenix knows that D'Antoni is one of the League's best coaches and will maintain him as coach next season.

"What have you done for me lately" that is what all pro sports leagues should be named. Show me the wins or I will show you the door could be another one. Sad, but true.

No More Pornstache In Phoenix
Signal to Noise — ... Sports Illustrated’s Jack McCallum is reporting that Suns coach Mike D’Antoni son’t be coming back after last night’s elimination at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of their first round series. The question is really now over whether D’Antoni will be offered a job by another team and accept or whether GM Steve Kerr and owner Robert Sarver will have to buy him out. ...

SportsHubLA — ... ‘08 MVP runner up Chris Paul vs. ‘07 Finals MVP Tony Parker in Round 2 is Must-See TV. The most [image] compelling one-on-one matchup in the ‘08 playoffs. Maybe the most intriguing duel in a very long time. I feel sorry for Steve Nash, who is going to end up having a Patrick Ewing/Charles Barkley ring-less NBA career. Parker turned Nash from Stevie Wonder into Stevie I Wonder What the-Heck’s Going On. Two-time MVP Nash got old before our eyes in the Spurs series. Mike D’Antoni has probably coached his last game in Phoenix . Three cracks at it with a star-studded roster, no ...

D'Antoni Apparently Done in Phoenix
The Sporting Blog — Last night's Phoenix loss left me with all sorts of feelings: Boredom, sadness, resignation, and most of all, dread. That, with all the cards on the table and table's legs falling apart like that, this was it for the Suns. But what would change? They're stuck with Shaq. Nash is their brains and engine. Amare the emergent monster. And D'Antoni, well, he's the one who came up with the whole shebang. When All Glare Fizzled
freedarko.com — [image] If you watched last night's Suns/Spurs welt-farm, you felt the omen. The Suns have not only died as an idea; they've even ceased to matter, vestigially, as the nut-case whose sober child grew into a prince. That team was just plain trounced and flummoxed, by a Spurs powerhouse that, were Phoenix the powerhouse they'd supposedly become, wouldn't have had it so glibly. And now, D'Antoni's leaving town . We can argue for days about who defined the Suns, but it comes down to D'Antoni, Nash, and either Marion or Amare. There's probably some sort of father/son/ghost thing ...

Josh Howard’s Impeccable Sense Of Timing
Can't Stop The Bleeding — While here are conflicting reports this morning over whether or not Phoenix’s first-round flameout against San Antonio means the end of Mike D’Antoni’s run as Suns head coach, it seems just a matter of moments before Avery Johnson’s tenure in Dallas is considered in the wake of New Orleans’ 4-1 series victory over the Mavericks.  The Star Telegram’s Jeff Kaplan reports the Mavs were slightly distracted facing elimination, thanks in small part to the party planning of noted weed enthusiast Josh Howard. ...

Meanwhile, in Phoenix, Suns GM Steve Kerr is denying reports that Mike D'Antoni is on his way out, but that doesn't necessarily mean much given that the Jack McCallum story for SI.com that broke the news said that the Suns weren't necessarily interested in firing D'Antoni... they just won't complain if he seeks employment elsewhere. Don't Get Cozy if You Win COTY
Fan Voice: Recent Topics in The Court Reporters: The NBA.com Blog — Posted by Rob Peterson On Tuesday, Byron Scott easily held NBA Coach of the Year award in the same hands that once effortlessly launched 12,000-plus NBA shots. The trophy is a simple and sublime sculpture of its namesake, Red Auerbach, sitting on the bench with his right hand clutching a victory cigar. The award isn't much bigger than a paperback book and can't be heavier than three or four pounds. It may not look dense, but the Coach of the Year accolade has suddenly become a weighty burden to three of Scott's predecessors. Avery Johnson, winner of the 2005-06 COTY, found himself without a job today as Dallas dismissed the man who had never won fewer than 51 games in a ...

Arsenalist — ... Jack McCallum is reporting that Mike D’Antoni is on the outs in Phoenix which is going to make Bryan Colangelo regret saying that Mitchell is safe. If the story is true and D’Antoni is fired, there is no way Sam Mitchell will be the coach of the Raptors next year. Colangelo will convince MLSE to swallow Mitchell’s salary at the chance of hiring D’Antoni again. In Colangelo’s world where defense and rebounding always come second to racking up points, D’Antoni could conceivably be the guy that turns the Raptors into Phoenix East, something ...

Suns’ Kerr: D’Antoni Not Fleeing Phoenix Just Yet
SPORTSbyBROOKS — Phoenix GM Steve Kerr is trying to squash rumors that Mike D’Antoni is already on his way out as Suns head coach. Mike D'Antoni Paul Coro of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC reports that Mike & the management plan to meet before the weekend to discuss the Suns’ situation. Steve spoke out about the D’Antoni dilemma after hearing the coach was reportedly already removed: Before leaving San Antonio late Tuesday, Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver was on the plane when he noticed a sportsillustrated.com report on his phone that stated D’Antoni would not be back as Suns coach next season. Sarver showed it to Kerr. Both were surprised and went to D’Antoni, who also was ...

Sarver Has My Permission to Go Away
Fanster.com — The big news this morning is that the Suns have given Coach D permission to speak with other teams while still under contract with the team. No huge surprise here, in that McCallum was right and the Bulls and Knicks are very interested in hiring a successful head coach. What I find interesting is money seems to be the main concern with what is going on with Coach D. It's clear his stay here in Phoenix is over but rather than getting it over with already and firing the man, Sarver and Kerr seem to be doing everything they can to NOT pay the man the remainder of money on his contract. $8.5 million is nothing to sneeze at of course but this just another ...

D’Antoni’s Mole
Fanster.com — Many sports stories are broken using information from anonymous sources. When a person in the know speaks on the record it doesn't usually end happily for them. That's just the way it is. As such, a person speaking on condition of anonymity is usually the guy at the center of a juicy story. What's interesting about stories surrounding the now former Phoenix Suns head coach Mike D'Antoni is that the source is always someone close to him. I usually don't care very much as to the identity of an anonymous source but it doesn't take Woodward and Bernstein to figure it has to be Dan D'Antoni, or as we here at BJD like to call him, Dan ...
