The most outstanding feature of last night's Bud Shootout was that what stood out the most was... well, racing. You know, cars passing each other and stuff. Bud Shootout Lessons Learned

... first used restrictor plates in 1971 to slow the big-block V-8s that exceeded 426 cubic inches in use then by the big factory teams. When NASCAR went to smaller 358-cubic-inch engines (1974), it took teams awhile to regain the lost speed and in 1987, restrictor plates made a return at Daytona and Talladega. Also, a compression limit was implemented in 1996 to cut horsepower.
