To pry Haren away from the A's, Arizona basically had to send it's entire farm system to Oakland and pay for a vacation for Billy Beane to take his family to see the Grand Canyon. It was a pitcher's dual between Josh Beckett and Arizona's Dan Haren, but the offense went to Haren and so too did the win, 2-1. Haren (W, 8-4) gave up only two hits in seven innings of work, striking out five. Beckett (L, 7-5) was equally good giving up two runs on five hits in eight innings while striking out eight. Dan Haren won a pitchers duel against Josh Beckett at Fenway as the Sox offense managed just 4 hits. Beckett had a shutout going in the 7th before he gave up 2 runs.
