On the eve of the "Greatest Day of Motorsports," it's relevant to stop and assess the health of the three racing organizations. NASCAR is booming, experiencing a growth in fan base both overwhelming and unexpected. Once a redneck hobby, NASCAR now has major media coverage for the minor-league (Nationwide and Craftsman Truck) series as well as the big boys. While the hype involving Danica Patrick has reached a fever pitch for today’s Indy 500, it’s worth mentioning that there’s another female driver on the other side of the spectrum. While Patrick is almost drowning in publicity and endorsements, Sarah Fisher , who started 22nd, is running her own team on a shoestring budget, and almost didn’t have a sponsor for the ...LINCICOME: Patrick just Indy gimmick : Columns & Blogs : The Rocky Mountain News

Is it just us, or is Danica Patrick cute even when she’s mad? Maybe this bloggerette just has a soft spot for fellow petite chicks. Anyway, Danica was none too happy about being knocked out of the Indy 500 yesterday on lap 171 by Ryan Briscoe . The pit exit dust-up— for which Briscoe is not apologetic —literally led to the IRL hottie storming out of her car after being ...All Eyes On Indy

Knocked out of the race, Danica Patrick was fuming while Scott Dixon was cruising to victory in a rejuvenated 500. Can U.S. open-wheel racing build on its recent merger and keep the momentum going? For 13 years they had waited for this moment, waited as open-wheel racing lost its luster and receded deeper into the background of America’s sports landscape. Whether or not you believe the Indianapolis 500 is still the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" is not what this post is about. It's not about Scott Dixon, or the merger of the IRL and Champ Car. It will be a little bit about Danica, but nothing to do with the events of the race. What this post IS about is the experience of the race, and why it's so special.
