David Aldridge: When starters sit, fans have a right to gripe Links3
A question for those of you who shelled out some not-insignificant bucks to watch the 76ers beat the Detroit Pistons last night: Did it bother you that the Pistons didn't play any of their starters in the fourth quarter? Or were you too busy celebrating the 101-94 win? [link]

    Thank you, David Aldridge...

It's true.  People work all week and save money (sometimes money that they shouldn't be spending)  to go to an NBA game.  These people work year round, and only have a chance to go to a game once in a great while.  Athletes owe it to the fans to play hard, and play whenever they are able.  They are entertainers.  Bottom line.  I feel bad for fans who spend good money to go to a game that these millionaires will make excuses not to play.

Fans get shafted in games like this, but I don't know what you can do about it. Coaches and GM's are hired to get their  team to advance in the playoffs and win championships. If they don't get that done, they'll be fired. You're gonna have a tough time convincing a coach to do anything that he thinks will detract from that goal.

i couldn't disagree more with aldridge.  yes, fans always have the right to gripe.  fans in detroit had the right to gripe when flip overplayed the starters and underachieved in the playoffs after winning 67 in the reg.  this is not a play, you can't expect the same cast every night.  how much would fans gripe if kg got injured in a meaningless late season game after doc played him 35+ mins?

Prices of everything from tickets to parking to garbage food at the arenas are so high it is obscene.      On top, if the one or two players that you care to see sit, what is the point of going?

... David Aldridge of the Philadelphia Inquirer caught up with a couple of Pistons fans at Wednesday's game in Philadelphia who were a little less than enthused about shelling out $250 for pair of tickets only to watch their favorite team lose by seven in a game in which not a single starter played during the fourth quarter.
