fastbreakblog Stern is always thinking he is too smart for the room. Smug is the right word. It is easy to dislike him, but he gets the job done.

The World According to David Stern
Published 3/28/2008 at The Sporting Blog
By Spencer Hall David Stern is the commissioner of the NBA, and thinks traveling overseas for six weeks in the middle of the summer is no biggie. In fact, he's going around the corner to Tokyo for some barbecue if you want to meet him there. David Stern: Hello, yes, next question. Reporter: So, you're saying that Miami to Paris really isn't that big a deal to ask NBA players to travel for the Olympics. Stern: Why are you behaving like such an American? As I said earlier today: "It's the same distance as flying cross-country." Reporter: Thank you, David, for the Geography lesson. Stern: No, I think you need a lesson. Examine this map ...
David Stern’s brain sometimes stops working
Published 3/28/2008 by PostmanE at The Postmen // A Sports Blog // Chicago, IL.
I like David Stern a lot. He’s a good commissioner. He gets it to an extent that Bud Selig could only dream of, and to which Roger Goodell still has to prove he’s capable. Overall, he’s a net positive for the NBA.
But sometimes — as above, or on the radio with Dan Patrick after last year’s seminal Suns-Spurs call — Stern’s brain stops working. He gets defensive. And all of a sudden he sounds like a painfully indignant, elitist d-bag who can’t stand your petty insolence. How dare you be so, so … ...

Stern Oddly Content Playing Bennett's Fool
Published 27 days ago by Matt Watson at FanHouse
Filed under: SuperSonics, Western, SeattleDavid Stern usually has no problem embracing the role of "hard ass." (In fact, it seems like he actually enjoys it.) And yet, when Clay Bennett was forced to turn over emails that revealed he and his ownership team flat-out lied to Stern's face about not planning on moving the team to Oklahoma City all along, Stern oddly decided to roll over and let Clay and his buddies escape public humiliation: "I haven't studied them but my sense of it was that Clay, as the ...
Tell Ron Artest About The Rabbits Again
Published 25 days ago by insomniac at Insomniac's Lounge
... from a leather to a synthetic ball for a few months. As Artest has had many run-ins with Stern (including a recent suspension after allegations of domestic abuse), it's possible that Artest agreed to do this spot to earn favor with the commissioner. This actually makes sense. Stern has lost control of the media and the owners, but at least he can still bully around a couple of players to make himself feel powerful. Maybe next week, he can get Carmelo Anthony to talk about how flying to Paris is easier than traveling to god-forsaken Seattle, ...
