I believe that you are right.  Michael Phelps deserves it.  But what about Usain Bolt, I mean fastest man in the world broke both 100M and 200M records?  Why not him.  But I do still believe that MP should win it.

    Tim Tebow.

Barring him, how about me giving props to a rival: Myron Rolle.

Phelps won 8 golds.  Awesome.  not everyone gets to.  But not everyone even competes in a sport where it's possible- if they came up with 8 more running events, is there any doubt Usain Bolt would claim them, or at least compete for them?

For athlete of the year, why not vote for someone who also transcends sports and is a fantastic role model... make a meaningful statement.

For the record, to me, Tebow earns 8 gold medals worth of college football prowess.

The Phelps thing is impressive and all, but he's not so obvious of a choice.  I haven't even thought about other sports, but the two guys I mentioned are fantastic candidates from college football.

Excellent comment GatorsFirst! Interesting, I have been saying the same thing about Usain Bolt, if he had a chance to win 8 gold medals, don't you think he would be in the running? Pardon my pun :)

As much as I think these articles are great, I have always had problems with the coronation of "anyone". Phelps did most of his record breaking work alone, while Tebow has to thank in part his team. Already there is a difference, no?

Had Phelps had the same exact times, but only gotten 7 or 6 golds would he be the best? Had Tebow had the exact numbers on a 6-6 team would he be seen in the same way? I think there should be at least two categories when talking about "POY". One for individual sports and one for members of teams.

Tebow won the Heisman on an 8-5 team.  That's not 6-6, but it's also not far off.

Yeah, I will do that. Give me today to do so, since I don't want to just do it for the heck of it, I want to make sure I do it properly.
