Ryan Dempster struck out a career-high 12 and hit a go-ahead single against Greg Maddux during a four-run fifth inning, leading the Cubs over the punchless San Diego Padres 4-0 Thursday.
Jim Edmonds singled in his debut with the Cubs, who won three of four from the team with the worst record in the major leagues (15-27). NL Central-leading Chicago has won six of seven overall.

docksquad33 Monster game by Dempster today. Edmonds did strand 7 on base, but hopefully he can fit in well and be a big time contributor for this squad. -
The Zoner Of all the surprises in MLB this year--and there are many--Dempster has absolutelty shocked me. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Remember Marquis in April and May last year?
