Redsauce What??? I thought all of NY knew that their 3rd basemen, he of the .314/.422/.645/183 OPS+/153.8 RC line, was solely responsible for their collapse. What a horrible baseball player that guy is. -
Evil Empire Choke-Rod's hitting was not clutch, consistent, or timely...but that's pretty much par for the course for him. What really hurt was that True Yankees like Jeter and Posada didn't pick up the slack. -
Redsauce Without "Choke-Rod" & his play in the regular season, the Yanks wouldn't have been within spitting distance of the postseason. -
chone "Choke-Rod" is just waiting to be made into a t-shirt.

... s from here on out, I'll look back on these 12 years with great, great pleasure." Even with Torre's success with the Yankees, I couldn't imagine a more difficult managerial job. In most other organizations, Torre's job would be as safe as the gold in Fort Knox. If George follows through with his threat, and Torre wants to keep managing, there will be a job for him. It's not just Torre that might not be back with Yankees. Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera are both free agents, and Alex Rodriguez can opt out of his contract. Given the support that Torre has from his players, a new manager might make it easier to leave the Big Apple: Rivera said he did not know why Steinbrenner would even think of firing Torre, and he said he would have to think about whether he would want to play for another manager. Of his contract status, Rivera said: "They had an opportunity and they did nothing with me, so we'll see what happens. This is a business, and I'm going to treat it like a business." ...

"Sometimes you do well and you lose, and you don't do well and you win," Jeter said. "It doesn't really make a difference. We didn't get the job done and that's the only thing that really matters."
He must have forgotten "sometimes you don't do well and you lose." You know what else? It does make a difference when your #2 hitter puts up a bagel for most of the series.
