This is when Devean George becomes the answer to a question in Trivial Pursuit. "Who blocked the trade that would have returned star point guard Jason Kidd to the team that drafted him, the Dallas Mavericks?"

    From the article:

The issue is that if he agrees to this deal, he has to give up his Bird rights. To lose that tool in today's world of free agency is a difficult thing to do. In this day and age, the sign-and-trade is a valuable tool that I don't want to lose for Devean.

I don't think he has to worry about free agency when he's sitting on his couch next year.

You could combine all the cheers Devean George got in six seasons as a Laker and I doubt they'd add up to the big ups he's getting from the Nation right now. Granted, I imagine the trade will happen with somebody else in his place. But still, way to bleed purple and gold (or at least not not blue, red and silver), Mr George. According to ESPN.com’s Marc Stein, George is one of 18 players in the league who fall under that obscure clause in the CBA.
