DEVIN HESTER A HOLDOUT
ProFootballTalk.com — The Bears signed all their draft picks and gave Brian Urlacher the contract he wanted, but they still weren’t able to open a holdout-free training camp. Kick returner and wide receiver Devin Hester refused to show up for the opening practice and is staging a holdout because he’s unhappy with his contract, Mike Mulligan of the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting. Hester has two years left on the four-year, $2.86 million rookie contract he signed as the Bears’ second-round pick in 2006. He is scheduled to make $445,000 in 2008 and $530,000 in 2009. The Bears could fine him close ...

As of 3 p.m. this afternoon, the ace kick returner is now officially a holdout . Hester has two years remaining on the four-year, $2.86 million deal he signed as a second round pick back in 2006, but his agent has been trying to negotiate a new contract extension. Mulligan explains what the Bears will be without for the time being: In just ...

Devin Hester a No-Show at Bears Camp
Every Morning Quarterback — ... he was drafted back in 2006, maybe it’s time for the team to recognize his importance by giving him a long-term deal in advance of his current contract’s expiration in two years. Apparently the Bears have tried negotiating, but (obviously) the two sides have not yet come to an agreement. At any rate, the Collective Bargaining Agreement will come into play (it’s complicated), so expect Devin to show up for practice no later than August 5. Bears Primary Scoring Threat Devin Hester Calls in Sick on First Day of Work
FanHouse — Filed under: Bears, NFC NorthSo much for my brilliant plan to save the Bears' season: move Rex Grossman to running back, try Kyle Orton at wideout and make Devin Hester the quarterback. The organization was able to extend the contract of middle linebacker Brian Urlacher, and sign first-round pick Chris Williams, but the most dangerous returner in the league was a no-show for the first day of work. Apparently, Chicago's primary scoring threat thinks he's worth more than the two years and ...
