Did the Leafs Confuse Sauer with Finger or am I Missing Something Here?
There were many signings that made me shake my head yesterday. There’s one in particular that really confused me and many others. Jeff Finger. FOURTEEN MILLION DOLLARS. I decided to hold off on commenting until I heard the team’s rationale. And after reading the quotes in I’m more baffled than ever before: "A lot of people in Toronto are asking me, 'Who the hell is Jeff Finge [link]

How'd We Do?

... Just when I thought I was happy about it, I went and read this. It was, needless to say, extremely disheartening. Could the Maple Leafs have actually confused Jeff Finger with Kurt Sauer? Like Kevin Garnett said a few weeks ago, "anything is possible." I mean, we're talking about the Toronto Maple Leafs here. If DeVry's motto is "We're serious about success," then the Toronto Maple Leafs' motto is "We're serious about incompetence." Being a Leafs fan has taught me that I can never, ever, ever, put anything past the clowns that run this franchise. They are capable of ...

"Did the Leafs Confuse Sauer with Finger or am I Missing Something Here?" — Headline on hockeybuzz.com prefacing a detailed article in which writer Daniel Tolensky breaks down reasons why he's convinced the Toronto Maple Leafs signed the wrong Colorado Avalanche unrestricted free agent defenceman. It's just another frighteningly convincing argument as to why Cliff Fletcher might be the wrong general manager for the team. Also see: ...

More importantly, though, one wonders how (if at all) that deal might impact the Caps' negotiations with Morrisonn. Mo is probably not worth $2.75 million per season right now ( Jeff Finger ...

Did the Leafs sign the wrong player?
Published 7/17/2008 by Ashley Gallant at Faceoff Factor
... public, I think me and most of the hockey world had the same reaction: What?? How can the Leafs sign a 28-year-old rookie defenceman to a 4 year, $14M contract when he was a healthy scratch for half of Colorado’s playoff games last year? Then, my friend Sarah sent me a couple of links that say that the Leafs may have signed the wrong player. Maybe they meant to sign Kurt Sauer instead of Jeff Finger. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse for Toronto… Daniel Tolensky of hockeybuzz.com was confused about the signing when he heard Cliff Fletcher and Ron Wilson’s ...

... has been posting some excellent articles and this week takes a look at the new-look Coyotes defense.  He cites another article by Danny Tolensky on hockeybuzz.com that compares the Sauer signing to a big deal that Toronto gave another Colorado defender, Jeff Finger.  The Maple Leafs gave Finger a four-year deal for $14 million while telling their fans that Finger was the Av’s key “shut-down” defender who played the majority of minutes against top Western Conference forwards like Joe Thornton, Jerome Iginlaz and the Sedin twins.  But in fact it ...

Freddy got Fingered or at least the Leafs salary structure did: Leafs sign Jeff Finger
The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to amaze me. Just when I think that it’s safe to trust their manoeuvres they go out and sign Jeff Finger for 4 years and 14 million quid. Who’s Jeff Finger? He must of been an honourable mention in the Norris Trophy nominations this year. This signing is dubious to say the least and Jeff Finger better prove to be the second coming of ...

Leafs give their fans the Finger
Ok, yeah, right. The Toronto Maple Leafs signed defenseman Jeff Finger to a four-year deal worth $3.5 million per season. Jeff Finger is a 28 year old, second year player, coming off a 79 game season in Colorado. He has totaled a robust 29 points in 94 games before being highly coveted (apparently just by the Leafs). Someone please tell me what makes the Leafs do such a thing? Not that ...
As Everything Old Turns New Again…
In so many ways, today represents a lot that has gone on in the recent history of the Toronto Maple Leafs—and no I’m not talking about the non-playoff, post-lockout years. Something Is Going On, But I Can’t Put my Finger on it
The day starting out normal enough, aside from the Leafs signing Curtis Joseph (read about it below), but as the day went on things got stranger and stranger. It really wouldn’t have been much of a risk for the ...
Jeff Finger Signs In Toronto
Finger snagged a four-year deal worth 3.5-million a season. The Leafs overpaid here and while it will be tough to see Finger go, Giguere made the right move by not paying him all that money on the basis of one season.
Maple Leafs sign Jeff Finger.
Most hockey fans outside of Colorado have little idea who Jeff Finger is, but many in Canada will get to know him starting next season. Finger today signed a four-year, $3.5 million contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, who only play in Canada’s biggest hockey market. Despite the efforts of Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher to clear some cap space to continue the team’s rebuilding plan he ...

Finger could hardly crack the Avs' top-six last season and now they decided to give him a $3.5 million per year deal.
