Published 12/12/2007 by Michael David Smith at FanHouse
Filed under: 49ers, Bengals, Broncos, Texans, NFL Media Watch, Tampa Bay, NFL NetworkThere's a new option for people who want to watch the games on NFL Network but don't have it on their cable systems: Go outside and watch it being broadcast on a blimp. Seriously. Michael Hiestand of USA Today reports that DirecTV will show games on a giant video screen on the side of a blimp that will fly above areas with cable operators that don't have NFL Network.
The blimp can fly as low as 1,000 feet and has a 70x30-foot screen, which DirecTV says is "the largest aerial digital screen." It will fly over the Tampa-St. Petersburg ...

This is just about the craziest marketing move I've ever come across (it probably ranks right behind the time I went to a Demolition Derby and handed out tickets to a JMU Football game). The NFL-Network and DirecTV are providing a huge service to those cities that can't view games due to blackouts. A blimp with a giant video screen airing the games for people in the streets. From Sports by Brooks via USA Today... DirecTV, a satellite TV provider, will announce Wednesday the most imaginative tactic in the hubbub over how viewers might get NFL games that air on the NFL Network. DirecTV will show them on the giant video screen on its blimp as it flies above ...

According to Michael Heistand of USA Today (via Sports by Brooks) DirecTV will air NFL Network games over blacked out cities by way of blimp. Yes, blimp. I'm dumbfounded.
"DirecTV, a satellite TV provider, will announce Wednesday the most imaginative tactic in the hubbub over how viewers might get NFL games that air on the NFL Network. DirecTV will show them on the giant video screen on its blimp as it flies above towns whose cable operators don't carry the league's channel.
Don't laugh. TV sports on a blimp probably will be as good as other platforms for TV sports — such as the tiny screens on ...

How Good (or Bad) is Vince Young? Jury Still Out

Did the 'Ole EA Curse Get Vince, Too? It's amazing how a single game can turn a nation of football fans onto a particular topic. Yet, I was among the obviously thousands of sports fans who read and heard (but, of course, did not see) that Mario Williams basically owned the Broncos on Thursday night and ...
