Dombrowski: Tigers not sellers at trade deadline - Detroit Tigers Baseball: News, Blogs, Photos, Audio, Schedule & Stats
DETROIT -- Dave Dombrowski watched his Detroit Tigers take batting practice earlier this week from the dugout at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. He was well aware that the first-place Chicago White Sox were coming to town this weekend, and that a sense of urgency had arrived. "We're at crunch time now," the Detroit general manager said. "It's time for the last (61) games of the season. We dug ... [link]

Trade stuff to watch
Published 7/25/2008 by Kurt at Mack Avenue Tigers
Dave Dombrowski says the Tigers won’t be sellers and probably won’t be buyers. Sellers Can they improve by selling? The Dodgers’ meddling owner may be targetting Edgar Renteria, according to SI’s Jon Heyman. Is it really selling if the team improves by trading away an underperforming shortstop? Heyman’s report brings up the names Jack Wilson and Orlando Cabrera. I’m guessing Cabrera is unavailable, as the White Sox seem to be doing pretty good right now. So do ou want Renteria or Ramon Santiago? ...

Yanks Probably No Longer Interested In Zaun
Moments ago, the New York Yankees dealt their rocket surgeon reliever Dr. Kyle Farnsworth to the Detroit Tigers for future Hall of Famer Ivan Rodriguez. I understand that the Tigers are desperate for relief pitching, but isn't Farnsworth just the white Fernando Rodney? I assume this means that fan favourite Brandon Inge will at least now have a regular spot in the lineup. For the Yankees, any ...
Tigers give Pudge to Yankees for nothin’
The Yankees seem to have found a replacement for Jorge Posada. The Yankees have acquired catcher Ivan Rodriguez from the Tigers. Detroit will get right-handed pitcher Kyle Farnsworth, who played with the Tigers previously in 2005. As god as my witness, I thought Farnsworth could pitch.

Already blessed with one powerful Rod on the roster, the New York Yankees are about to receive another one . Byrd Handcuffs Tigers in Indians Latest Shutout Win 5-0
It’s just too bad that Paul Byrd couldn’t pitch every game vs the Tigers. For whatever reason, Byrd has the Tigers number, and Monday night at Progressive Field he was at it again against the Motor City Kitties, shutting them out for 7.2 innings as the Indians won the first of a four-game set vs Detroit, shutting them out 5-0. Byrd was helped out by an offense that used the ...
That Certainly Came As No Surprise
The Tigers dropped two-of-three to the division-leading White Sox this weekend… what a surprise, or rather, not. After sweeping the Royals in the previous series, some may have thought the Tigers were poised to continue their climb up the AL Central standings. Instead, fans were met with a devastating blown game Friday, and another tough loss Saturday, before finally taking one on ...
Tigers Not Discussing Jack Wilson
According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette , the Tigers haven't asked the Pirates about Jack Wilson since last winter.  So while they may be looking for a long-term shortstop, he's not the answer.  Wilson was very nearly traded to Detroit for Jair Jurrjens a year ago. Kovacevic says the Dodgers remain the top suitor for Wilson.
Your New Tigers Closer: Fernando Rodney
Is this what they mean by "Christmas in July"?  Before this afternoon's Tigers-White Sox game, Jim Leyland finally announced the move that seemed all but inevitable after Friday night's blown save .  Todd Jones is no longer the Detroit Tigers' closer. Curiously, Leyland saved the announcement for the radio pre-game with Dan Dickerson on WXYT-AM in Detroit, rather than give the ...
TODD JONES CEMENTS HIMSELF AS AN AVERAGE PITCHER
Every season, it happens. There is one game, maybe even one moment. Everything either goes very right or very wrong. For the Tigers, that game was Friday. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth and the Tigers leading by one, Jones delivered a meatball that Jermaine Dye sent over the right field fence. The Tigers were within one out of closing the gap to 4.5 games with 2 more left in the ...

Letter from Detroit II: Vanity Teams Are the Worst Kind
White Sox fans, there’s something that I think you need to know about Tigers fans and that something is this: don’t waste your energy booing us or hating us, because we really don’t care. Barely Winning Ugly: Sox - Tigers Game 1
Friday’s game against the Tigers was declared as “important” by the WhiteSox.com front page. Well, thank you, Captain Obvious! Yes, with the Twins on our tail, Detroit playing good baseball right behind, and a few offensive and defensive hiccups, plus a losing road record, this road trip would, indeed, be important. It was not deserved, it wasn’t pretty, and it was unexpected, but the Sox ...
Letter from Detroit I: Tigers and Me
Like most really old baseball stadiums, Tiger Stadium was in fact a total dump. I mean, it was nice in its kind of tough, grimy way - how appropriate that it was in Detroit, itself the toughest, grimiest city in America. People talk about New York or Los Angeles, or maybe Chicago, but if you want the true American experience take a walk through Motor City. Any city can build a museum, but it ...
Here Come the Tigers
The Sox open up a 3-game set against the Tigers (known affectionately around here as the Motor City Kitties) at Comerica. This could prove to be a pivotal series in the season for the Tigers. Or, it could be like most of the big primaries in the Democratic race, in that it doesn’t really decide anything. As I write, the Tigers are 5.5 game back of the White Sox. A sweep in either ...
Card Corner--Norm Cash
Norm Cash--Topps Company--1972 (No. 150) The Detroit Tigers of the late 1960s and early 1970s remain a beloved team throughout Michigan and much of the Midwest. Four years later, an older Tigers team, featuring many of the same heroes from 1968, captured the ...
