Frozen Pill Don Cherry wants us to remember this is Canada's game on loan to the rest of the world. And as such, he will dictate how to appropriately behave when a good goal is scored. I can't stand the ridiculous dances and jigs of football players who make a tackle (it's their friggin job, why celebrate?) but when OV-1 or Sid the Kid make a beautiful play to score a goal I have no problems with EITHER of them taking a moment to celebrate along with the fans. It actually helps 'bind' the players to the fans. If they start spiking the puck, I will change my opinion and call for more reserve. But right now, it's important to sell this game to the people (not just the insiders) and perhaps get more TV coverage to spread the joy of the game we all love so much. It is also important to note hockey is the game where, after a goal is scored, the player may take a moment to bounce off the glass or duck-hunt his glove in the air, or dive and swim the ice, but before the puck drops again, they come together as a TEAM and hug. Grown men, hugging in celebration for team success....not individual's showcasing their latest dance move learned at the club the night before. OV-1 has not taken it too far. Cherry is just upset that he has begun to eclipse the anointed star of Crosby, and basically says so in this video ('...the Canadian way....' and '...Crosby's down and that's why I'm sticking up for him'). True, Canada gave us all the supreme gift of ice hockey. But once a gift is given, it belongs to the recipient. May we all enjoy our gift now? -

puckman80 Frozen Pill, I second that emotion. I do have one pet peeve, though: Why in the h-e-double-hockey-sticks do so many guys score a goal and immediately remove their mouthguards before celebrating? What is the purpose of that? It's just ridiculous. They might as well begin their goal celebrations by dropping their pants...and I hope Ovechkin doesn't read this - NOBODY wants to see that.-
hockeygal I'm with Frozen Pill...let Ovechkin and other goal scorers celebrate their wins and goals. Why is Don Cherry trying to get people to hate Ovechhkin.... Ovechkin is an amazing hockey player, inspiring, an entertainer, full of life, and he worked hard to where he is now and his fans love him. If Sydney doesn't like Ovechkin's behaviour so what...people are entitled to their opinions but let's not get jealous over someone else's athletic talents. Please let everyone play their own game...that's it that's all. Don Cherry, don't be a racist or a hate spreading type of person.
