Don Cherry brings his flamboyant personality to ESPN, starting with tonight’s “Sportscenter”. The CBC “Hockey Night in Canada” analyst signed on with ESPN to provide postgame reports during the Philadelphia Flyers-Pittsburgh Penguins Eastern Conference finals, and cover the Stanley Cup Finals for the network.

There was a time when Demolition ruled the World Wrestling Entertainment Tag Team Division and it was cool to watch. Canada’s most outspoken - and most oulandishly dressed - hockey talking head will have a regular gig on Sportscenter throughout the rest of the playoffs. I've learned to keep tabs on this dude in Toronto for my TV hockey news, such as Don Cherry (!) contributing to ESPN. I could never get away with writing as much about hockey as they do in Toronto, of course. Unless perhaps I was in Detroit , which still really cares quite a lot about the NHL, perhaps second only among American markets to Buffalo. The last time an American television network drafted Don Cherry for the Stanley Cup Playoffs was when NBC decided to place him at the same desk with Brett Hull to really mix it up and make some great television. It's a nice surprise we weren't expecting come playoff time, sort of like when you wake up Saturday morning and think that it's Thursday.
