 Down On The Farm Minor League Report 7/25/08 Pt 1  Links0

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees won easily over the Rochester Red Wings by a score of 7-3. Starting for Scranton was Jeff Karstens and he gave up 3 earned runs on 9 hits in 5.2 innings of work for the win. Steven Jackson faced the last batter of the 6th inning and got him out. Replacing Jackson was Brian Bruney and he pitched a scoreless 7th inning. In the 8th inning, Billy Traber pitched to 1 batter, gave up a hit and was taken out. Chris Britton pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th inning giving up 1 hit. The hitting stars of the game for Scranton worth mentioning were short stop Alberto Gonzalez, center fielder Matt Carson, first baseman Juan Miranda and catcher Chris Stewart. Gonzalez went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 1 rbi along with a home run. Carson went 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi along with a home run. Miranda went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 1 rbi and Stewart went 3 for 4 with 1 rbi.

Double A

The Trenton Thunder lost a low scoring game to the Portland Sea Dogs by a score of 2-1. Starting for Trenton was Phil Coke and he pitched a scoreless 1st inning striking out 3 batters but was taken out of the game because he was traded to the Pirates. That’s the last we’ll hear from him. It was fun doing summaries for you Phil. Eric Wordekemper started the second inning and pitched 3 scoreless innings giving up 2 hits while striking out 5 for the no decision. Replacing Wordekemper to start the 5th inning was Kevin Whelan and he gave up 1 earned run on 2 hits in 2 innings of work. Following Wordekemper to start the 7th inning was Anthony Clagget and he gave up 1 run on 1 hit in 3 innings of work for the loss but the run was unearned because of a fielding error by right fielder Edwar Gonzalez.

The hitting star of the game for Trenton worth mentioning was DH James Cooper who went 1 for 2 with 1 rbi along with a walk.

Class A

The Charleston RiverDogs won big over the Hickory Crawdads by a score of 8-1. Starting for the RiverDogs was Dellin Betances and he gave up 1 earned run on 4 hits in 7 innings of work for the win. Replacing Betances was Jesse Hoover and he pitched a perfect 8th inning and has an era of 2.78. Following Hoover was Gabe Medina and he pitched a scoreless 9th inning giving up 1 hit.

The hitting stars of the game for the RiverDogs worth mentioning were catcher Austin Romine, DH Jesus Montero, first baseman Brandon Laird and right fielder Austin Krum. Romine went 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi. Laird went 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored and 2 rbi’s along with 2 walks and Krum went 1 for 4 with 2 rbi’s.
