And through all that, Duke-hate ran strong. Joe Alexander feels it:

Tomorrow night will see Bob Huggins' West Virginia team take on the Duke Blue Devils. That means we get those pals Huggs and Mike Krzyzewski on the sidelines against each other. When asked what he brings to the friendship , Huggs let us in: "Well he's so dry and boring that he needs somebody to kind of give it a little bit more life. So I try to help him every chance I get. If there is one team in college basketball that most fans probably want to see suffer an early defeat, it’s Duke. There’s never anything wrong with watching the Blue Devils go down, even when it means a stand-up guy like Bob Huggins advances. The first team to officially advance into the Sweet 16 is the West Virginia Mountaineers by way of their 73-67 victory over Coach K ...West Virginia Defense Stifling, Duke Receives Early Exit 73-67

NCAA participants, West Virginia coach Bob Huggins is back, and he hasn’t lost a step. His implementation of man-to-man defense and domination of the boards has helped the Mountaineers get this far; on Friday, Huggins did more of the same and it worked well as Duke didn’t have many answers - they shot 38%. As a result, #7 West Virginia will live to see another day, handing #2 ...Duke Booted

Doesn’t feel the same as a Belmont victory would have, but we can all feel a little better about ourselves because Duke won’t be going to the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive year . If the 'Eers will burn a couch for any ol' reason, think how many are going down tonight after a 2nd Round victory over Duke. Blue Devils shot 5-for-22 from three-point range and three of those came in the final desperate minutes. Duke missed 15 consecutive from behind the arc while going down — miserably — to the West Virgina Mountaineers, 73-67. The score is a lot closer than the game was, especially in the second half. By Will Brinson Now we know why the NCAA only scheduled one game early on Saturday - the pinnacle of polarization in college basketball, the Duke Blue Devils, were involved in a pretty physical and perhaps not-so-shocking L to West Virginia. The win will come as a surprise only because we're so used to seeing Kru-ja-woo-ski and company winning during the month of March. But if you ...No More Annoying Dukies Until Next Year

Last year, Duke was out in Round 1. This year, they’re out in Round 2. The Blue Devils lost to West Virginia 73-67 in a game they looked solid in the first half, and awful in the second. Duke was just 5-22 from beyond the arch and only 19 of 50 from the field. West Virginia looked sluggish in the first half, often turning the ball over and incapable of dealing with Duke’s ...West Virginia Topples Duke; National Morale Soars

Well, that was a tale of 2 halves, to be certain. After starting the game by hitting 2/3 3-pointers, Duke finished a Saturday loss to the Mountaineers making 4/20. A solid 2 for 17 effort helped erase a 5 point first half lead. For West Virginia, Joe Alexander finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds and Alex Rouff had 14 in WVU’s 9 point victory. Over the last few years, West Virginia has found a niche of being the NCAA tournament darlings. In 2005, we were Kevin Pittsnogle-d into a surprising Elite 8 team (they went to the Sweet 16 the next season). In 2008, they are the ones who knocked Duke out of the dance.
