Elton Brand Spurns California, Verbally Commits to Philly
For much of the last week, most basketball fans assumed that Elton Brand was either going to a) re-sign with the Clippers; or b) grab the pile of money that Baron Davis left behind with the Warriors. Instead, he surprised everyone by choosing c) none of the above, leaving behind the Western Conference entirely in favor of the 76ers. From the Los Angeles Times : Elton Brand has reached a ... The free agent market gets smaller
Published 7/9/2008 by Matt Watson at Detroit Bad Boys
... Elton Brand goes to Philly (five years, $82 million). The Pistons never had a chance at him, but his arrival to the 76ers will definitely affect them come next year. This won’t make the Sixers into instant favorites like the Kevin Garnett deal did for the Celtics, but at the very least it does make them a threat to get home court advantage in the East. And let’s be blunt: if the Sixers had a healthy Brand in the playoffs last year, would the Pistons have still won in six? I’m not so sure. ...

Elton Brand spurns Baron, heads to Sixers

I know most of the folks at HHR are estatic that Elton Brand pulled the old switcheroo on Baron Davis and signed a nice little 5-year, 82 million dollar contract. Save it, Clipper Fan: Elton Brand is no Carlos the Jackal

Elton Brand played the game of free agency by the rules. There was no lying that had to take place for him to get out of his current contract. There was no inability on the Clippers' part to offer him as much as he wanted. That wasn't the case four years ago in Cleveland with the Cavs and another undersized power forward out of Duke, and that's why Elton Brand is no Carlos Boozer.
