Emmitt Smith: If the Giants Win Today, They Could Possibly Go on to the Super Bowl
Another day, another gaffe from ESPN's Emmitt Smith , who has made so many of them that it feels a little unfair to keep bringing them up. But this one, in which he says of the Giants, "If they win today they possibly go on to the Super Bowl," is egregious enough that it deserves mention. Awful Announcing and Pro Football Talk have chronicled all of Smith's problems this year, and there's ...

You Have To Love Emmitt Smith
Foul Balls — ... Emmitt's, and thankfully somebody was kind enough to put it on YouTube. Wait a second, Emmitt. So you're telling me that if the Giants win the NFC Championship game today against the Packers, they have a chance to go to the Super Bowl? Wow. I had no idea. Emmitt also went on later in the show to tell us that if the temperatures in Green Bay rise to above 75 degrees, it will not snow, and that if the Patriots lose today they won't have a chance to complete an undefeated season. Thank You, Emmitt Smith: "If They (Giants) Win Today, They Could Possibly Go On To The Super Bowl"
FanIQ Blog — Thank you, Emmitt Smith. You've have the all-time record for rushing yards in a career and now, in one short season, you also have the record for dumbest comments by an NFL analyst. Channeling his inner John Madden, Emmitt informs us that if the Giants win they have a really good chance to play in the Super Bowl. Genius. HT: FanHouse

Audibles at the Line: Conference Championships
Football Outsiders — ... New York Giants 23 at Green Bay Packers 20 (OT) Doug Farrar: Everyone gets excited for conference championships! Why? Because in the words of Emmitt Smith, “If the Giants win this game, they could possibly go to the Super Bowl.” Mike Tanier: He didn’t really say that, did he? Doug Farrar: I don’t think he meant to say it (i.e., he knows that a win would put the Giants in the big game and he just verbally gets in his own way a lot of the time), but he said it. Michael David Smith: He said it. Aaron Schatz: I just have to point out that the advertisement on the side of ...

Eli?
Low Percentage Shot — ... Or, Papa can you hear me?? Not all in the audience will get that reference but I think everyone will get the fact that Eli is in the Super Bowl (or they at least have a chance to play in the Super Bowl, according to Emmitt Smith), and Peyton is not. While the fact that Peyton is not playing in the Super Bowl restores the world order (i.e. him wrapping his hands around his neck), the fact that Eli is playing for the big ring throws it out of order again (i.e. him not wrapping his hands around his neck). In fact, I remarked in the fourth quarter that it looks like Eli ...

Football Outsiders — ... WIN THE SUPER BOWL, ELI COULD POSSIBLY GO TO DISNEYLAND“He has his team in the position right now, if they win today they could possibly go on to the Super Bowl, and make an appearance there.” – ESPN commentator Emmitt Smith , describing how Giants quarterback Eli Manning led the Giants to a position where, if they won the NFC Championship Game last Sunday against the Packers, they could possibly make an appearance in the Super Bowl. And yes, this is a Quote-of-the-Year Nominee. ( AOL Fanhouse ) THE TIMES ARE TOUGH NOW, JUST GETTING TOUGHER / THIS OLD WORLD IS ROUGH, ITS JUST ...
