Morgan Ensberg Satisfies Paulie Fans Everywhere

The Yankees have added Morgan Ensberg to their 40-man roster. As stated in the above link, he's in for a new number, which means the Yankees can be that much closer to retiring Paul O'Neill's number. Carl Pavano was placed on the 60 Day DL to make room. This gets nothing but an awesome from me.

... team." Ensberg will make $1.75 million. And here's good news for any Paul O'Neill fans: Ensberg plans to ask to change from No. 21 because he doesn't think he should take Paul O'Neill's number. He said he didn't ask before because he thought it would be presumptuous to ask for a different number if he wasn't even on the roster. He plans to make Wilson Betemit an offer for No. 14, which was his number in Houston.“I can’t wear Paul O’Neill’s number,” Ensberg said. Classy move Morgan.

Ensberg Added To Roster

Pete Abe is reporting that Morgan Ensberg has made the Yankees and will not be wearing #21 this season.
He wore #14 at USC and in Houston - and he wore #2 with San Diego. My guess is that he'll grab #11, #12, or #19 when one of them opens up come Opening Day.

... Via PeteAbe, the Yanks added Morgan Ensberg to the 40-man roster and will pay him $1.75M to come off the bench and start against tough lefties this year. Carl Pavano was moved to the 60-day DL to make room for Ensberg, who is out options and will NOT wear number 21. This basically means that the bench is set, with Ensberg joining Wilson Betemit, Jose Molina and whoever sits between Shelley-Matsui-Giambi-Damon on a given day. I suppose that Shelley could be shipped to Triple-A with a Cody Ransom-type taking his spot on the bench, but I think it’s unlikely. I like the move, ...

Yankees LoHud Blog: "The Yankees tonight added Morgan Ensberg to the 40-man roster. He will make $1.75 million. He has no options, so this mean that Ensberg is going to make the team. Now that he knows his status, Ensberg said his next move would be to get a new number. He does not want to wear 21. “I can’t wear Paul O’Neill’s number,” he said." I had really hoped that they would give the final spot to Woodward, but I can't really argue with Ensberg. He can really rake and that is what the Yankees team is based around.
