Terps first team out of preseason coaches' poll
Terrapin Trail — The ESPN/USA Today men’s basketball coaches’ poll came out today , and the Terps were on top of the “Others receiving votes” list. The Terps earned 100 voter points, while No. 25 Syracuse picked up 111. Several ACC teams did crack the top 25, though, namely No. 4 North Carolina, No. 8 Duke, No. 20 Georgia Tech and No. 24 Clemson. As far as non-conference teams on Maryland’s schedule this year, there’s No. 6 Villanova and no one else guaranteed, though the Terps could meet up with Gonzaga or Vanderbilt, both receiving votes in the poll, in the Maui Invitational. ajoseph@umdbk.com This entry was posted on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 at 12:34 pm ...

First Top 25 Poll Is Out
Basketball Predictions — The first Coaches Poll of the season is out. You can compare it with my most recent BP65 here. I'm not going to quibble too much with the top of the rankings. Everybody knew Kansas would be the preseason #1, and I agree with North Carolina, Kentucky and Villanova as the highest ranked teams in the ACC, SEC and Big East respectively. I continue to think that Michigan State is a bit overrated because Goran Suton was so much more important than just his stats, but I still do consider them a competitor to win the Big Ten.
