... . And now - predictions. You know what? I have been doing this blog for two full seasons and my predictions have stunk. Last year I picked the Indians to win the World Series - beating St. Louis. Now, I appreciate whoever in Major League Baseball is reading this blog and decided to take my prediction and turn it into the first Civil Rights Game, but I really would have preferred the World Series. In 2005, I picked the Yankees to beat the Braves, and that pick was way off too. So, this year, I am trying something different and abstaining from making pre-season picks. Meanwhile, you can go over to ESPN and peruse their picks . What I notice is eleven different teams are picked to win the World Series. The Yankees lead the way with four picks, and the Indians join Boston, Detroit, Anaheim, and the Dodgers in having two people pick each team. Heck, John Shea even chose the Cubs, and someday that ma

... . On, and Peter Gammons, despite what he said on BBT Sunday, also picked them. It really doesn’t matter whether the national media picks you to win or not. But I certainly enjoy seeing some of the baseball writers I enjoy reading pick them. It sure beats being tabbed for fourth.

... Wow...you look at that lineup and tremble with fear. Their bullpen is not even worth getting into. Ten of eighteen ESPN 'experts' picked the Mets to win the NL East. When you throw out Steve Phillips' vote for obvious reasons, that is ten out of seventeen votes. Out of all of those 'experts', only three said the Mets miss the playoffs all together and one of those guys was not so surprisingly Steve Phillips. Even Keith Law, who has been one of the biggest detractors of the Mets rotation, picked them to make the playoffs via the wildcard. Of course all of this means nothing, but it I think it says a little something about who appears to be the best team around.

... The Rockies, though, if they wanted, could make a case. Check out ESPN's pre-season baseball predictions. It's an absolute, cold, hard fact that no one said the Rockies could do it. Eighteen experts picked the World Series participants, the division winners, and the wild cards in both leagues ... and the Rockies were not even mentioned. ...

... If you’re more curious about why I think predicting end-results is pointless, check out last year’s predictions on ESPN, and count to see how many even have the Rockies in the playoffs, and check out how many have the Twins in the playoffs…among various mistakes that were made. As an educated fan, you have as much of a shot as predicting what will happen. Does the guy with the best NCAA bracket every year work for ESPN? ...
