TheHype Ooooh my keyboard... Suns are such tragic figures..
04-05 Playoffs-- Joe Johnson gone
05-06 Playoffs-- Amare every there; Raja hurt, never the same
06-07!!!!Shakespeare couldn't write a play with so many tragedies!

TheHype *Amare never there*
it's obvious this news has shaken my very foundations of life...

tmcallist this is terrible.
I'm a fan of neither team (76ers fan... ugh...) but it's clear to me that this ruins this playoffs.
-
chowell18 Just plain wrong...
1 guy the Spurs could care less about.
2 guys the Suns need, including All-NBA member Amare & last year's Most Improved Diaw.

frybad It's a shame that the NBA players can't control their emotions at the end of games. How in the world do the Spurs get to benefit from the altercation? Horry once again shows he can't control his actions and the NBA front office rewards him.
How can Baron Davis give Derek Fisher an elbow out of frustration and not get suspended (last thing the league wanted was the Warriors to be eliminated last night) but Stoudamire and Diaw run close to the incident and do nothing and get a game suspension?
I will never understand the logic. Once again the NBA proves they have a bunch of players who can't control their actions and the front office can't stop it. The NBA is going to continue to slump until they stop the boring physical play. We need the whole NBA to be Warrior and Suns type basketball.
I'm convinced Poppavich has naked pictures of Stern and is willing to publish them at any time. Don't try to persuade me otherwise.

... [UPDATE: SUSPENDED! Horry (2), Stoudamire (1), Diaw (1). The League Office is fucking ridiculous. Self righteous bastards. I mean holding Kobe out of MSG for a regular season game is one thing. Creating a huge impact on THE most important series in the playoffs is another. All you have to ask yourself is this: Do the Spurs want it this way? No (but they'll take it). Do the Suns want it this way? HELL NO. Then just who is served? The fans lose. The NBA loses. What the hell is the point? Justice? Tell me, does what Amare and Diaw did last night deserve a suspension? No. So basically, the big winner out of all of this: bureaucracy. That asshole.]

... * ESPN.com has a poll up asking whether the suspensions of Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw are fair. How can they not be? The rule is clear. Leave the bench, at all, you get suspended. Don't want to get suspended? Well, don't leave the bench. This is entirely on those two guys. They screwed up, and they cost their team. I'm pulling for the Suns in that series, but even so, it's hard to feel too bad for them.
Big Shot Bob Strikes Again (Stoudamire Suspended)
Published 5/16/2007 by Chumley at Sports Frog
... The announcers were quick to point that the players left the bench and replay it again and again. Ironically, they may have had a hand in taking a likable superstar out of Game 5. That's right, Amare has been suspended (along with Diaw), while the Fresh Prince gets two games for the cheap shot. It is an unfortunate twist in this series and it makes me mad, but it was the right call. If you are going to have a rule you need to enforce it. And frankly the rule, last night and other nights, has helped the NBA prevent ugly scenes from getting much uglier.

Horry is gone for the next two games for his foul on Steve Nash and Stoudemire and Diaw are gone for game five because they left the bench on the altercation.

The NBA is Lame

... The NBA announced yesterday that it was going to go by the letter of the law and suspend Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw for game 5 of the Suns Series versus the Spurs, for getting off of the bench after Horry's flagrant foul. If you watch the video the Suns coaches stopped Amare and Diaw well before they ever came anywhere near the "altercation" as Stu Jackson calls it. How is that not taken into account? Should someone get suspended for starting to swing an elbow at someone and stopping well before they land it? This rule has been absurd since day one.
The Big Story: Don't Leave That Bench, Son
Published 5/16/2007 by The Feed at The Feed
... An earlier than usual Big Story today because of the ramifications of the suspensions handed down by the NBA to the Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs last night. The Association handed down a two game suspension to Robert Horry for his assault on Steve Nash and gave Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw one game apiece for leaving the bench area in the aftermath. In handing down the suspension NBA VP Stu Jackson said, "The rule with respect to leaving the bench area during an altercation is very clear. Historically, if you break it, you will get suspended, regardless of what the circumstances are."
A Brief Defense Of David Stern

... . In the main, Matt is entirely correct. He notes that while plenty of folks might take issue with Colin Campbell's decisions... I think Colin Campbell could be better at his job, but I wouldn't want it myself, and don't envy him. If there's two things I hope readers take away, these are them: 1. It is just and proper that NHL supplementary discipline is evaluated case-by-case and takes everything into account: the act, the injury (if any), the situation. While the NHL VP's best judgement seems crappy sometimes, the alternatives are worse. 2. Next time you're reacting to a light suspension for a dangerous hit, and are tempted to say, "It shouldn't matter that the guy wasn't injured", ask yourself if you honestly believe that (say) paralyzing someone isn't grounds for more severe punishment. Which leads us to NBA Commissioner David Stern, who handed out a pair of one game suspensions to Amare Stoudemire and Bor

... The NBA just concluded its season last night, thank god. I despise the NBA almost as much as I despise Ottawa but you gotta hand it to David Stern, the guy has that business humming along. He pushes the star players into the best markets, the brand NBA is thriving not only here in North America but also globally, he has negotiated tremendous TV contracts with the World Wide Leader, ABC & TNT and he rules with an iron fist. Sometimes that can come back to haunt him like the recent suspension of 2 players from Phoenix for leaving the bench in a playoff game. But hey, give the guy his due…he is consistent and very successful. You may not like him but the bottom line is he delivers. Can you say the same about Bettman? No fucking way.

David Stern and The NBA’s Double Standard

... The big story wasn’t the cheap shot that cost Horry two games, but rather the fact that Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw both left the bench and went onto the court. Sure, they may have been looking for trouble, but they were restrained and nothing else happened…except that they were suspended for a momentum changing game 5 which, arguably, allowed the Spurs to steal the series. At the time there was a lot of controversy as to whether or not the Suns players should have been penalized. The reaction from the league was as follows: ...

... This had to frustrate everyone that loved basketball, and those people are few and far in between anymore. In fact, this simple act almost single handily killed the, what up to that point, were extremely fun playoffs. The two best teams in the playoffs were facing off for the de facto championship, also known as the Western Conference crown. When Robert Horry hip checked Steve Nash into the benches, Amare and Diaw both stood up and crossed some imaginary line that the NBA had created to reduce enormous fights. Well, see for yourself I guess... ...
