Not every team deserves Oden or Durant Links24
By Bill Simmons Page 2 On Monday morning, I flew cross-country to watch the NBA draft lottery back home in Boston. Why? Because I still blame myself for screwing up the Duncan lottery. Instead of watching such a pivotal, franchise-defining moment with my father -- the guy who carried me into the Boston Garden since I was 4 years old -- I blew him off to spend a weekend on Cape Cod with a ... Quote: You're sitting there thinking, "that bastard rigged the grades so the Celtics would profit from his stupid scoring system."

Yep, it is what I'm thinking and I was thinking it before I even saw the score you gave the Celtics, Bill. Their high ranking of deservity was a foregone conclusion.

It's been said before, and I'll say it again: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    Serves the Celtics fans right.

Tanking Karma dominated--it was the worst possible outcome for the three teams who tanked the most.  No sympathy here for Ainge or Doc, but  I feel bad for younger Celtics fans--the past twenty years have been pretty rough.

I feel bad for younger Celtics fans--the past twenty years have been pretty rough.

Really though? I mean they made the playoffs 4 straight years from 2001-2005. They made the Eastern Conference Finals and the Semifinals during that run.

The Celts got nothing on the Warriors in terms of suckitude. And Warriors Nation doesn't have their strange sense of entitlement or complain like they do. Hey, when it comes to Warrriors brand of basketball mediocrity is excellence! The same goes for Clippers fans.

Danny Ainge was the worst thing that could've ever happened to the Celtics though. He doesn't have a clue. That and overrated their youth.

Well, you had the deaths of Len Bias & Reggie Lewis plus Bird & McHale breaking down prematurely.  And those recent playoffs teams weren't great--the '01 conference finals run was a complete fluke, and they went 36-46 in '03-04.

BUT, yes--things have been abysmal for Warriors fans up until three months ago (so bad that a couple random fans once created a web site calling for the "recall" of the owner).

Bias and Lewis are very sad and unfortunate stories.

4 straight years of playoffs though- I'll take that any day.

Any idea where I can find any "Recall Cohan"
          leftover t's?

Also, I can see a "We Believe in Paying Taxes" t-shirt line really taking off next year at Warriors games.

            We Believe in Paying Taxes--nice.  Sadly, I don't think I ever witnessed a real-life Recall Cohan t-shirt.

... ems, they could be a darkhorse contender, because his interior presence could largely make up for the fact that the Sonics seriously lack perimeter defenders. With Durant, they could have three elite offensive players on the court at the same time, causing massive matchup problems for opposing teams (like how do you guard not one, but two 6'10" swingmen who have 25-foot range and can take the ball to the hole). But almost as important as the on-the-court impact would be the off-the-court impact. Nationally, the Sonics would reappear on the NBA radar as more than just a franchise on the move. Locally, people would actually be looking forward to this season, not viewing it as one elongated send-off to a team they don't think they'll miss. The Sonics would see a spike in ticket sales, merchandise, and most of all public interest, and at this point the only thing that's going to save them (besides a lack of viable alternatives to Seattle) is a groundswell of support.

... . Or he does, I can't really tell. Bill Simmons comes up with some kind of formula to prove that his beloved Boston Celtics deserve the second pick in the draft . When it comes to the Blazers, Simmons notes: ... considering the Blazers were consistently competitive from 1976 to 2001, can you really argue that their fans have "suffered" that badly because they limped through a few bad seasons with some bad guys? Probably not. Yeah, I think you can Bill. They've certainly suffered more than Celtics fans. And seriously, is there a bigger group of whiners out there than Boston sports fans? That means in one form or another, Greg Oden and Kevin Durant are about to make the Pacific Northwest about much more than rain, lush green space, and concern for global warming. About the only thing that kept the E.C. from risking permanent fiefdom (at least as measured by number of quality teams) was Atlanta sneaking up a spot to number three, robbing Phoenix of the opportunity to steal their pick and beef up an already quality squad.

... But what about everyone's favorite writer Bill Simmons? He who flew to Boston just for the lottery. He who blamed himself for the Celtics not getting the first pick in 1997. You know what, it's probably a good thing for Simmons that his team didn't win. That's his shtick - the faux complaining, the agonizing, the losing. He thrives off of it, and more, he's great at it.

Bill Simmons of ESPN.com had a good take on whether or not the Timberwolves "deserved" to get lucky in this week's draft lottery:Nobody deserves a stroke of lottery fortune less than Glen Taylor and Kevin McHale, the NBA's version of Bush/Rumsfield for 8-10 years. Of course, nobody deserves a stroke of lottery fortune more than KG, one of the few superstars with too much pride to ever bail on a sinking ship. ... But wouldn't it be nice to see KG play the David Robinson to Oden's Tim Duncan for the next 5-6 years? As usual, the Timberwolves failed to move up in the lottery and will pick seventh overall, with both Greg Oden and Kevin Durant set to join teams in their division.

Bill Simmons as Bucks GM? Done.
Published 2/26/2008 by frank <info@brewhoop.com> at Brew Hoop: Front Page Posts
As expected, all was quiet on the Bucks trade front last Thursday, as the only real "news" was that the Bucks still weren't interested in Zach Randolph (thank you, Herb, Ron, Mike, Larry, et al). Either way, the worst kept secret in Milwaukee seems to be that, barring something quite unforeseeable, Larry Harris will be the designated scapegoat for the Bucks' disappointing 07/08, raising questions not only about what moves the Bucks should make this summer, but who will be making them (and whether the GM will really be calling the shots in the first place). While many Bucks fans have been wondering why an established GM-type would even want to ...

Oden or Durant? The choice is clear

The NBA Draft Lottery is tonight, and that begs the question -- if had you the No. 1 pick would you take Greg Oden or Kevin Durant? To me, the choice is clear. You have to take Oden. The rarest of all commodities in the NBA has always been a dominant center, and that is what Oden could be for the next 10-15 years.

Tuesday was not a good day for Bill Simmons

There's a famous quote by Mark Twain that speaks to the dangers of expectation. A thing long expected takes the form of the unexpected when at last it comes. -Twain And that's what happened tonight for the Boston Celtics.
