Enjoy watching Stallworth sit out w/ hamstring problems. The Pats overpaid for him.

there's a provision in the contract whereby the Pats can cut ties after a year. the first year isn't much, it bumps up after that. if they keep him, then they'll be overpaying.

Using the hamstring as an excuse is garbage.  The Eagles are thin at WR and if you think Baskett and Avant are the answer this year, you're kidding yourself.  Brown has even played two seasons with T.O. and Donte', let's see what he does with nobody's lining up opposite him.  Eagles needed Donte'.

The Eagles don't have problems scoring points. They'll be fine with Brown/Baskett/Warm Body
. The money needs to be spent on the defensive front 7.

... The Patriots have signed WR Donte Stallworth to a contract that will probably end up being a one year deal (but could as long as a six year deal worth $33 million).  The details of the contract are complex and can be found in the ESPN article.  Eiter way, this is a blow to the Dolphins, who were thought to be the favorite to land Donte.  Now, the Dolphins will have to turn their attention to Kelley Washington for a boost to their receiving corps.

Pats Sign Stallworth. Eagles Make Fowler An Offer.

... After a week of waiting around while Donte Stallworth visited a few teams, the ordeal for Eagles fans is finally over. According to ESPN.com, the receiver signed a deal with the Patriots that, at its maximum, would be for six years and $33.1 million. However, the contract is structured where $8 million is bonuses would be due by March 1 of next year, which means if Stallworth doesn’t perform up to New England’s standards, they could release him after paying him just $3.6 million this year. The question Eagles fans should have is: Could the team have made a similar offer to retain Stallworth, who led the league in yards per reception last season? You would imagine that they would need to pay Kevin Curtis at least $2 million for 2007 in order to sign him, and

... I’ve been a bit puzzled by the reaction I’ve heard–including from Patriots players–that portray the Patriots as somehow changing tack and breaking the bank to revitalize the roster. In fact, considering his numbers, they’ve gotten an absolute steal in Stallworth, and did it in a very smart way, by including a “balloon payment” of $11 million if they decide to keep him for 2008. It’s far from a blockbuster splurge on, say, a Randy Moss type of free agent, which is why it’s funny to me to see this termed a “spending spree” or even a roster overhaul. Stallworth’s enrollment in the NFL substance abuse program as well as his previous hamstring injuries are widely reported, and he’s coming off a season in which the Eagles are judged by some experts to have overpaid for his services.

... Donte Stallworth: He has a relatively complex contract which will cost the Pats a $6 million option bonus due by February, 25 2008.  I love Donte's post-catch abilities, but I just don't see the Pats ponying up the cash; my money's on letting his option pass so they can fix some other problems.  In addition, I just don't think he was one of Brady's consistent/preferred targets. ...
