char6587 not sure this is as big of a deal as the all caps headline would suggest. they had reliable information that the story wasn't true, so they thought it right to not report it.
I guess they could have said, "so here's a story that is not true: brett favre..."
im not an espn sympathizer, but this is no conspiracy. stop trying to make it one.
So Here's Why ESPN Completely Ignored The Jay Glazer-Favre Story
AwfulAnnouncing —
... A lot of sites took the time to mention this yesterday, but I personally wanted to give it a day. Sports Center occasionally skips past items of this nature, but when NFL Live, Monday Night Countdown, MNF, Primetime at Halftime and late night SC, fail to mention it....something has to be up. That something was an inner-office release that stated Glazer's story was "not true" and was not to be mentioned under any circumstance. Via PFT.... ...

The Zone Blitz —
... it, that Favre would have shared the story with somebody. So he would have got beat on his own story. And I kind of understand that. But ... the story is in essence going to ruin Favre's reputation. It will be as hurtful as anything, in my opinion, that has ever happened to him since he has walked into the NFL. And that includes going to rehab." I love the line "that Favre would have shared the story with somebody." I wonder if Glazer thought that "somebody" was King? Pro Football Talk reports: ESPN issued internal “DO NOT REPORT” warning on Favre story. ...

The Latest on Favre-Gate
Pride Of Detroit —
The whole "oh my God, Brett Favre called the Lions about Green Bay's offense" saga is really getting interesting. Right now there are two sides in this saga: those that agree with Jay Glazer's report and those that think it isn't true. Most people seem to be on Glazer's size, but there are some out there that don't think the story is accurate. The main side opposing Glazer is ESPN and Favre himself. ESPN hasn't mentioned this story even once on TV or on ESPN.com, and Pro Football Talk got the scoop of why that is the ...

As you may have heard: Glazer broke the story, ESPN sends out standard memo instructing its Bristol army NOT TO REPORT THAT STORY, and questions pop up as to whether the WWL is installing a company-wide anti-Glazer policy for the sake of Chris Mortensen's fragile ego or if Favre is sour-grape sabotaging his former team. ...
ESPN Says It Is, So Now It Must Be True
RealClearSports - Blog —
Over the weekend, it was reported that Brett Favre called Detroit prior to their Week 2 game against Green Bay to help the Lions game plan against his former team. Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, who originally broke the story on Sunday, said that his sources told him "...Favre actually spent over an hour on the phone with Lions coaches, who were connected with Favre by then-team president Matt Millen." So why was ESPN mum on the issue? They were told not to report it, at all:

Had Edwards been the father of two sons he reasonably would be more likely to overlook or even excuse Johnson's conduct? What if he had one of each; would he be on the fence? ... I’ll get into interpreting that information in a bit, but the most fascinating aspect of the story is how ESPN handled it. Actually, it didn’t handle it. It avoided the story like an elephant avoids a mouse. ESPN ran scared. An internal memo was sent that the story was not to be reported on. ESPN claimed it couldn’t verify the report. I have no problem with it not being able to verify the report. But why not report that? The story had been put out there by Glazer and FOX. ESPN should have reported on the story and added that it could not confirm it. ...
