ESPN journalism: The ups and downs of coloring outside the lines - Columnist Links4
Over the past six months, I have given repeated support in this column to ESPN's various efforts to enhance its stature as a news organization -- through its creation of a new enterprise reporting unit, its launching of the news magazine show "E:60," its impressive venturing into documentary films, four of which aired on ESPN2 between April 16 and May 13, and the recently detected morphing of ... ESPN ombudswoman slathers on the Mayo
Published 5/16/2008 by Neil Best at Watchdog
Here is the latest from the always insightful ESPN ombudsman - shouldn't it be ombudsperson? - Le Anne Schreiber. Synopsis: O.J. Mayo coverage: good. Miguel Tejada coverage: less so. My career plan is to cover the sports media/business beat for another seven years, for an even 10, then help out around the office getting Mr. Dolan's coffee and such for another five years or so, then semi-retire and become ESPN's ombudsman. First order of business: Suggest that Don Cherry become the lead SportsCenter anchor. ...

ESPN's Ombudsman Breaks Down The Differences Between OTL And E:60
Published 5/16/2008 by Awful Announcing- (noreply@blogger.com) at Awful Announcing
When the first E:60 press release came out and I remember thinking that the incarnation of this show meant the end of the road for Outside The Lines. Contrary to my thoughts ESPN decided to keep OTL and even added a time slot during the day for Outside The Lines: First Report. As E:60 went through it's first run of shows and the Lisa Salter's Parkour controversy went down, it was clear that E:60 wasn't going to be run by the same standards as OTL. When the second set of shows kicked off with the Miguel Tejada ambush we found out just how bad those standards were. Le Anne Scrieber (the ESPN Ombudsman) decided to make her latest article about ...

ESPN Ombudsman's latest-still sees opinion over fact
Published 5/17/2008 by susan mullen (noreply@blogger.com) at XM MLB Chat
ESPN will probably never get another ombudsman as good as their current one. Her latest report, 5/15/08, details positives before relating everything else. She again references ESPN's preference for opinion as opposed to objectivity ...

ESPN Ombudsman has posted her May column
Published 5/17/2008 by Josh Nason (noreply@blogger.com) at Small White Ball
SWB favorite Le Anne Schreiber has posted her May column, a look at E:60's approach in uncovering the discrepancy in Miggy Tejada's age and the balance act with OTL's exposure of the OJ Mayo story. Good as always, give it a look.

Spellcheck Is For Bowl Game Participants Only

They've already had some fun with this over at the Scout board and on the D.O. Sports Blog but I couldn't pass up the chance to mention ESPN's Big East football preview, namely their section about the Syracuse Orange. At least I think that's the Syracuse Orange. Let's take a look at their thoughts on our starting safety positions:
