HOUSTON -- A month ago, you never would have bet it would end like this. A month ago, the debate about those Chicago White Sox never seemed to involve whether they belonged in the same sentence as the '27 Yankees, or even the '99 Yankees. No, the debate back then was whether they were heading ...

Sonnanstine And Niemann Exposed To Waivers
Rays Index —
Jayson Stark is reporting that the Rays exposed two of their starting pitchers to waivers recently.
Clubs monitoring the waiver wire say the Rays’ Jeff Niemann and Andy Sonnanstine both got claimed this week — and were immediately pulled back.
It is quite possible that the Rays were looking to deal one or both of the starting pitchers, but balked when a different team claimed one or both, or they were just gauging interest. It is also possible that the Rays were employing a very popular practice this time of year in ...
Possibly why Harang is still here?
Redleg Nation —
From Jayson Stark:
Scouts say Aaron Harang seems to have righted himself. But even though he’s cleared waivers, here’s the single biggest reason you shouldn’t look for him to get traded this month: If he’s dealt, his $12.75 million club option for 2011 turns into a $14 million mutual option, which essentially guarantees him an extra year on his deal.
Harang already has $12.5 million coming next year no matter where he pitches. And the Reds haven’t shown much interest in digesting money to move either him or Arroyo. ...

Muddy American League Central
passion4baseball.blogspot.com 7/29/2009 — The only thing we know for sure about the American League Central is that the wildcard will not come from that division. The word, "Central," means in the middle and all three contenders in that division are certainly living up to that name. The Twins at .500 and the leading Tigers and White Sox ...

Q: Bobby Jenks has only blown a handful of saves this season, but his ERA is above 4.00. I’m a firm believer that the ERA defines a pitcher’s success more than his win/loss record, and Jenks’ high numbers could haunt him against playoff caliber teams come ...

Bleacher Report - MLB 8/14/2009
U.S. Cellular Field generally gets a bum rap from people who visit the stadium, and I always believe that this isn't completely warranted. Part of this could be from those who immediately compare it to Chicago's other ballpark, the historic ...
