Major League Baseball will open the 2008 regular season on March 25 with the World Series champion Boston Red Sox and Oakland A's in Japan. XM Satellite Radio will air three live broadcasts of the game, including one broadcast in Japanese. The Red Sox will play the A's in front of a sold-out crowd at the Tokyo Dome at 6:05 am ET. Dice-K had previously made it clear he planned to stay in America to be with his wife during the birth and not travel half way around the world.

Dice-K to Start Season Opener in Japan

For a while, it seemed he would never make it, but Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka will be making the trip to Japan after the birth of his son . Now, Terry Francona has named Dice-K as the Opening Day starter when the A’s and Sox square off March 25 in Japan. Jon Lester is slated to start Game 2 of the season, also to be played in Japan.
