... monster third baseman was batting .218 before the Seattle Mariners released him on July 10th. However, this does not concern the Yanks, who are 5-15 against left-handed pitching this year. It just so happens that the right-handed hitting Sexson will start against lefties, who he took for 5 homers and a .344 average in 71 at bats this season. From ESPN : The New York Yankees have reached a tentative agreement with Richie Sexson, who was released by the Seattle Mariners a week ago. Sexson fits in New York because the Yankees needed a right-handed slugger to match up against left-handed pitching -- and Sexson had a .344 average against lefties this year. Assuming the deal is completed, he'll be in the lineup Saturday against Oakland.
