Chris McCosky: Flip Saunders will remain the head coach of the Detroit Pistons
Full-Court Press —
Here's some news, that if true, will be surprising to many Pistons fans. June 2, Detroit News: Saunders met briefly with Pistons president Joe Dumars on Saturday and all indications are that he was told he will be back. Understand that with the Pistons, a coach's job security can change in an instant, but as of today, the plan is for Saunders to finish out the final year of his contract. He's already working on next season. He will supervise a workout of draft candidates at the practice facility Wednesday. McCosky goes on to list what Joe Dumars might do over the summer in ...
Flip Saunders to Stay with Detroit Pistons
Empty the Bench —
Flip Saunders knows his job is on the line Or at least so reports Chris McCoskey for the Detroit News : We were all wrong. All of us who speculated that the Pistons’ loss in Game 6 to Boston spelled the end of Flip Saunders’ coaching life in Detroit were wrong. Saunders met briefly with Pistons president Joe Dumars on Saturday and all indications are that he was told he will be back. Understand that with the Pistons, a coach’s job security can change in an instant, but as of today, the plan is for Saunders to finish out the final year of his contract. Flip Saunders … to Return?!
SLAM Online —
by Marcel Mutoni
Flip Saunders may be the only coach in the world whose job security is always (seemingly) on the line, despite the fact that he’s made it to the conference championship round in every year he’s been on the job.
That may no longer be the case, for another season at least.
Somewhat surprisingly, some in the Detroit media are hinting at Saunders being the Pistons’ bench boss next year.
Saunders met briefly with Pistons president Joe Dumars on Saturday and all indications are that he was ...
Garnett, 'Sheed Not So Similar Off the Court
The Sporting Blog —
[image] It was a tale of two power forwards. Through the Detroit/Boston series, we heard endlessly about how KG and Sheed "mirrored" each other. This was supposed to indicate that both are tall and versatile. But according to the Detroit News , the two actually offered a study in contrasts: Off the court, Garnett can be a jerk. He is rude to ball boys and locker room attendants. He gets himself so intensely wound before games, he's even a jerk to his teammates at times. But on the court, Garnett is the perfect teammate. He plays hard every second he's on the floor. He shares ...
Flip Saunders will return to the Pistons. Yay, smart people
Ball Don't Lie —
It appears as if sanity has prevailed in Detroit. In relative terms, of course.
Chris McCosky of the Detroit News - a man who fully expects
both Skeets and I to
be in our pajamas at this exact moment (joke's on Chris, he's only half right!) - is
reporting that after a meeting with Pistons president Joe Dumars on Saturday,
Flip Saunders will be retained as Piston coach.
Most expected Saunders to get the axe after a third-straight
Conference finals flameout for the Pistons, but as cooler heads are prevailing,
it still behooves us to mention that it wasn't Saunders who decided to
needlessly foul Paul Pierce with 90 seconds left in ...
Can We/Should We Go After Rasheed
Philadelphia 76ers Fan Blog —
The Detroit Pistons had their annual Flip Saunders Eastern Conference Flameout in May, and conventional wisdom said that Saunders' head would roll. But that doesn't seem to be the case. The early exit polls show that Philly son, Rasheed Wallace, is being viewed as the fall guy. This begs the question, if he's available, should the Sixers trade for Rasheed Wallace? I don't think Wallace gets us a title, but a healthy motivated Wallace just might get us to the Eastern Conference Finals. I'm not one to speculate on the details of trades, but suffice it to say that if Ed Stefanski ...

... For starters, it’s time to get off the Rasheed Wallace train. What a wild and crazy ride it has been with this mercurial talent, but how many times can a team climb back on board with him after he crashes? ...
Flip Saunders apparently won’t be fired

The Pistons Are Cool With Flip, Thanks
FanHouse —
Filed under: Pistons, Eastern, DetroitYup. According to the Detroit News, Flip Saunders will most likely be back with the Pistons next season, despite what can only be classified as an unnerving series of disappointments that now stretches into its sixth year in the Conference Finals with only one championship, Detroit will not can their coach. Opinions on Saunders tend to run the gamut, with some saying that he has failed to ever reach this team, and others arguing that he's been made into a scape goat for an under-performing squad that has still managed a great deal of success. The knock on Saunders has ...
Not everyone is convinced Flip is staying
Detroit Bad Boys —
Yesterday, Chris McCosky was confident that Flip Saunders would stay put:
We were all wrong. All of us who speculated that the Pistons’ loss in Game 6 to Boston spelled the end of Flip Saunders’ coaching life in Detroit were wrong.

Maybe Flip Saunders Isn't Safe, After All
FanHouse —
... past season, which ended last week to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals. Nor has Dumars met with owner Bill Davidson, who will undoubtedly have his say in Saunders' future. The person said a meeting between Dumars and Davidson will take place "really soon," and after that, questions about Saunders' future should be cleared up. The person stressed that Saunders has not yet been given any assurance he'll be back. This contradicts Chris McCosky's article in the Detroit News yesterday, although it's somewhat telling that ...
Flip's Future Uncertain

Yesterday Chris McCosky of the Detroit News reported that Flip would be back next season. "Saunders met briefly with Pistons president Joe Dumars on Saturday and all indications are that he was told he will be back. Understand that with the Pistons, a coach's job security can change in an instant, but as of today, the plan is for Saunders to finish out the final year of his contract. He's already working on next season. He will supervise a workout of draft candidates at the practice facility Wednesday." Today Krista Jahnke from The Free ...
Flip Saunders Is Now Unemployed
The Sporting Blog —
[image] Bang! There's your first big off-season tremor: Flip's out in Detroit . This after the team supposedly told Saunders that everything was cool. As far as analysis goes, I'm going to quote Matt Moore ... writing on the day it was suggested that Saunders wasn't going anywhere: The knock on Saunders has nothing to do with his Xs and Os work ... The problem is simply that this team is difficult to motivate. There are times when they simply don't execute like they need to, and in recent years, those lapses have occurred at the worst possible times. Like, say, the fourth quarter in an Conference Final elimination game. Okay, maybe Flip isn't a ...
