... The only instance that comes to mind of a team being punished for tampering happened back in March with Lance Briggs and the San Fransisco 49ers. San Fransisco contacted Briggs’ agent during the 2007 season (in other words, while Briggs was still under contract with the Chicago Bears), and Goodell ruled that the dialogue between the two sides was impermissible under league rules. You may recall that the 49ers got nailed for tampering in a case involving Bears linebacker Lance Briggs earlier this year.
