FAVRE: “IT’S ALL RUMOR … NO REASON FOR IT”
Published 7/3/2008 by Michael David Smith at ProFootballTalk.com
After an ESPN report this afternoon that Brett Favre was considering a comeback sparked a frenzy of speculation, Favre himself responded with a brief message to his local newspaper. Favre replied to a South Mississippi Sun Herald question about the ESPN report by saying, “ It’s all rumor .” When queried about a possible media firestorm, Favre text messaged a reporter at the paper, “No reason for it.” That sounds like Favre is saying he’s not playing this year. But it’s also a far cry from stating categorically, “I will not play football again.” And unless Favre says that, ...

Favre's Second Denial That He's Returning
Published 7/3/2008 by Brandon at Acme Packing Company: Front Page Posts
... It's been almost three months since there have been some good, solid rumors that Favre's coming back, so it's time to get back on that horse. ProFootballTalk got the ball rolling last week, and now Chris Mortenson is on the case. Favre's even asked for his release! Of course, Favre has denied it.  It wouldn't surprise me if Favre is second guessing himself. He can still play, and at a very high level. His retirement shocked me, and therefore his return shouldn't shock me. But I don't think he's coming back. The explanation he gave for his ...

Favre’s delayed return?
Published 7/3/2008 at Goal-Line Stand
... that Favre could be inching closer to a return… before he ever went anywhere. It’s a widely held belief that Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, has been secretly selling his client, hinting that he isn’t 100% retired, and while Favre continues to deny (although not with much force) the possibility of a comeback, we want to continue to emphasis that smoke equals fire. An interesting twist to the story comes courtesy of the ...

Favre must be decisive
Published 7/3/2008 at Sports - Pancake Blocks
[image] As decisive as Brett Favre is on the field, he's a vacillating mess off it. But Favre must force the issue of returning to the field now if he truly wants to come back, and all indications are that he does despite his claims to the contrary . The Packers will not make it easy on him. They have ...

Brett Favre: The Packers Really Don't Want You To Come Back (But ESPN Does!) [Brett Favre]
Published 7/3/2008 by DAULERIO at Deadspin
... Of course the denials are starting to pour out of Favre ( l love how his hometown paper is usually one of the first places he talks to. Well, and Jay Glazer. And AL HARRIS, apparently.) and his agent Bus Cook's once again overusing the phrase " ...

Favre Thinking About a Comeback Already?
Published 7/3/2008 by Sean Yuille at Pride Of Detroit: Front Page Posts
... McCarthy but talks have not advanced to a substantive stage, a Packers source said. On ESPN's NFL Live, Packers defensive back Al Harris said on Wednesday: "I've talked to Brett and I know he has the itch to come back and play. If he will or not, I don't know. But I know he's feeling he wants to play." When asked how Favre expressed his desire to return, Harris said the quarterback said, "I got the itch." Before the news got too out of hand, Favre told a Mississippi paper that it was just a rumor and nothing more. Retired ...
