Put me on the list of people who think this is a HORRIBLE idea by Favre.

You came, you played, you're a legend... go play golf & enjoy the rest of your life.  Get into coaching, etc. if you're still so into football, but give up on playing again.

As a general sports fan though, you have to think this is an awesome idea. I know he played for the Atlanta Falcons in his early days, but can you imagine him in another uniform now? Where will he play? I think someone in the NFC North like Chicago and Minnesota are possiblities, but also those in the AFC East (Miami, Buffalo)...

Favre is my fav player of all time... but he needs to let it go.  He had his fanfare, he's got a ring, and he has about a dozen NFL records.  Remember Jordan and the Wizards?  Yeah, we don't want to remember it either.

This move by Favre is going to do the same thing it did for Jerry Rice. He is going to go from being one of the greatest QBs, to being one of the greatests QBs while in his prime.

i'm sorry, but the last i recall he retired and moved on. and so did the team....i'm a packer fan, then a favre fan....and slowly becoming less of a fan as this drama continues. so i support the packers decision. i'm moving on and aaron rodgers is my qb.....you'll see me at lambeau supporting the packers and good ol aaron rodgers for better or for worse.....you'll see me in the stands wearing this shirt!

I personaly feel that there are no real winners in this situation. I can see both sides here. The man retired and the team moved on. Now that he wants back in the league he does have the right to play, no one can block a persons right to work in this country so if you want to play then play, I am in no position nor is anyone else to tell Brett not to play. Do I think he should come back no, but it isn't my choice it is his choice, I would like to see him do well when he does comeback. Now as far as the Packers go do they need to take him back ......no, not if he isn't part of their plans (which at this point he isn't) but they do need to do the classy thing here after everything Brett has done for that organization just release him and let him sign where ever he wants, if they don't want him then they have no right to tell him where he can and can't play. The Packers organizatiuon needs to do the right thing here and show a little class to one of their greatest players of all time.

Favre Asks For His Release
Published 7/11/2008 by Brad (noreply@blogger.com) at Chuckie Hacks
WTMJ (and now, ESPN ) is reporting that #4 has asked for his release from the Green Bay Packers. First , this is not a surprise in any way, shape, or form. Second , good luck. No chance GB releases him without getting something (draft pick?) for him, and possibly seeing him land with the Vikings. Third , good luck #2. Favre putting on another jersey is a disaster waiting to happen...for him, that is. He's too dumb to learn a new offense (he's said so in the past)...especially two weeks before camp starts, he probably won't have as good of a WR/TE corps, and he surly won't have ...

REPORT: FAVRE ASKS FOR RELEASE FROM PACKERS
Published 7/11/2008 by Michael David Smith at ProFootballTalk.com
Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that Brett Favre and his agent have sent a letter asking the Green Bay Packers to release him. According to Mortensen, the letter was sent via overnight mail on Thursday and arrived at the Packers’ facility this morning. That doesn’t necessarily mean that Favre wants to play for a team other than the NFL — it could mean that he just wants to explore his options — but Mortensen said on ESPN’s NFL Live today, “I can tell you he wants to play football.”

Now that Brett Favre is seeking his unconditional release from the Packers, I wanted to revisit this topic. If he’s coming back to play for another team, you’d have to think that he’d be willing to commit for more than one year. Say what you will about our O-line, but I’m not sure Favre has ever played with a trio more talented than Dwayne ...

Don't get me wrong I think the Packers are crazy not to make another run with Favre, but I can't blame them for wanting to tell him to get lost.
