Fernando Pisani's Blog: Fernando Pisani's Blog: Battling back from ulcerative colitis
Hockey players often take their health for granted. That all changed for me in 2005 when I started feeling sick. I knew something was wrong with me, but I was kind of embarrassed to see somebody about it. As time went on and I began to feel worse, I knew I needed to get well and had to see a doctor. I finally did and that s when I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I was able to continue ...

I would really like to get a message to Fernando about his illness. I have a similer illness - Crohn's and wanted to urge him to consider an alternative treatment. I'm sure his doctor wont agree as it involves not taking drugs. I went down the path of medication and ended up at a dead end. I would like to share my story with him, but i'm not sure how to get the message to him. If anyone can help me get a hold of him via email or telephone, I would like to share how I was able to beat the desease that plagued me for over ten years. Most people don't believe my story until I explain how I beat the desiease. Thank you. Aydin

Pisani Battles Back From Ulcerative Colitis
KK Hockey — ... knew something was wrong with me, but I was kind of embarrassed to see somebody about it. As time went on and I began to feel worse, I knew I needed to get well and had to see a doctor. I finally did and that’s when I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I was able to continue playing, but last July all the symptoms started coming back, only worse this time. I was going to the bathroom 20-30 times a day, losing a lot of blood and a lot of weight. continued...

Pisani went to bathroom 30 times a day, looked like Mr. Burns
Puck Daddy — Ulcerative colitis ... no thank you. Hearing about Shayne Corson's painful battle with the disease was convincing enough. Today on The Hockey News' Web site, Fernando Pisani of the Edmonton Oilers goes into excruciating detail about his ordeal with UC, writing about "going to the bathroom 20-30 times a day, losing a lot of blood and a lot of weight" and looking like skin and bones to the point where "it was like I was staring at Mr. Burns" in the mirror. Uh, not so excellent, Smithers. Pisani blogs about his diagnosis, ...

San Pisani joins the Oilogosphere
The Battle of Alberta — ... I doubt this is a permanent gig (if so, call us, we have space!), but Pisani has an interesting post up on The Hockey News concerning his battle with ulcerative colitis. It's a bit odd to say Pisani deserves to win the Masterton Trophy this season--I'm sure he and many others nominees, like Jason Blake, would have preferred not going through the illness and/or adversity--but it really should go to him. To come back and score 13 goals four months after losing 40 pounds and being unable to walk up a flight a stairs is...well, it's damn impressive. And inspirational. ...

The Myth. The Man. The Legend. Fernando Pisani.
The Jumbotron — ... . The disease does not just appear one day and there really is no cure or quick fix. It’s a pretty drawn out process and I am willing to bet Pisani was feeling like shit while playing, going as far back as the ‘05-’06 playoffs. I would be surprised if his point totals in ‘06-’07 wern’t affected by colitis. He only missed 26 games last season due to colitis and still put up 13 goals and 9 assists. Fernando Pisani was nominated for the ...
