College Athlete Likeness Lawsuit could have Significant Ramifications

This past spring, former Arizona State and Nebraska quarterback Sam Keller filed a class action lawsuit against the NCAA and EA Sports. In his complaint, Keller identified the class upon which he is suing on behalf of all college football and basketball players who are in EA Sports’ various games. The complaint alleges a handful of different claims, including breach of contract, conspiracy, unjust enrichment and violating the athletes’ right of publicity. The story that leaked in May will become official on Wednesday: the Boston Bruins will play in the next NHL Outdoor Winter Classic at Fenway Park on January 1. The scheduled 2PM ET press conference, where the announcement will be made, will be simulcast on NHL Network and NHL.com. While it has not been announced, the Washington Capitals or Philadelphia Flyers are expected to be the Bruins' opponent for the game. Although the young Czech forward signed a two-year pact to play in Russia, National Hockey League Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said in an email that the League has taken the position that Hudler’s election to file for salary arbitration obligates him to play for the Red Wings. Hudler filed for Salary Arbitration on July 5, which took place prior to him signing with Moscow Dynamo of the Kontinental Hockey League. This occurred on July 9th. Arthur Blank has sold a minority stake in the Atlanta Falcons to four partners framing the transaction as a matter of charity, saying that the primary purpose of bringing in new investors is to provide an option for Blank that adds flexibility in directing capital to The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation during his lifetime. The new minority partners are Ronald E. Canakaris, Douglas J. Hertz, Ed Mendel and Derek V. Smith, who now join John P. Imlay, Jr., and John A.
