International Officials Screw It Up Again

Team USA may not have played well to beat their Finnish counterparts, but the officials certainly didn't help matters. After allowing an obvious non-goal after the puck entered the net from the side, the officials also turned their backs on several obvious infractions on both sides. In the end the US will have to lick their wounds with a 3-2 ...

Many hockey fans have said that NHL officiating is the worst of any league or any sport. Unfortunately for Team USA, those fans were proven wrong earlier Sunday night. The Americans were winning a tough game with Finland by the score of 2-0 when the Finns apparently scored a huge goal in the third period which gave them some much needed momentum.
Coach John Tortorella argued against the goal, but after video review, the tally counted and Team Finland continued the comeback to an eventual, 3-2 victory. “Torts” argued because he thought that the puck entered the goal from the side of the net. After the game, it was confirmed that the angry coach was right. Somehow the ref on the ice as well as the video review ...

I got to watch Team USA take on Finland at the World Championships in Halifax, NS, but I kind of wish I didn’t. Team USA was holding on to a 2-0 lead on the back of Robert Esche, despite getting outshot by the Finns. Ville Koistinen shot the puck at the net on a feed from Montreal’s Saku Koivu, and the red light went on. However, it was plain to see that the puck went in under the side of the net. I saw it right away, and the goal went to video review. THEY UPHELD IT. Despite multiple camera angles showing that it should not have been. Everyone knows it:
