I don’t know who I even thought I was kidding yesterday when I mentioned Corey Maggette taking less money to play with a contender. Who did I think he was? Gilbert Arenas? But with the dust settling, it looks like Maggette will suit up this season in Oakland where he will be running along side Monta Ellis, Captain Jack and the rest of the Warriors. The Warriors have been busy recently with the Summer League victories that they’ve been piling up, but in the midst of all of the ‘basketball’ stuff, they were able to pull off a trade that will help keep Monta Ellis playing at the two-spot. Williams, a point guard out of UCONN, was drafted in the first round at pick 22 in the 2006 NBA Draft. This is a great pickup by the Warriors, and if they ...Warriors Strengthen Bench Trade With Nets For Williams

The “ Associated Press ” reported Tuesday that the Golden State Warriors have acquired point guard Marcus Williams from the New Jersey Nets for a conditional first round pick. It’s still unknown how long Ellis is inked for, (the terms of the deal were not announced), but the important information to the story is that there is no fear about him leaving anytime soon. The Warriors and Chris Mullin have been creating a whirlwind over here at The City with all of the moves that they’ve been responsible for the past week. Restricted-free-agent Monta Ellis re-signed Thursday with the Golden State Warriors for six years and $66 million — 6-6-6! Here's what they're saying out in the ether about the deal ... Talking Points with Tim Kawakami : "Ellis had to get paid. Even before Baron Davis bolted, Ellis was going to get paid–he's a 20-point scorer at a very high percentage and he’s young. ...Warriors Sign Monta

Hey, welcome back to America, where we discuss players who matter. The Golden State Warriors, who I'm positing these days as America's weirdest team , have inked Monta Ellis to a mighty extension. From The Contra Costa Time : The Warriors locked up restricted free-agent guard Monta Ellis with a six-year deal worth $66 million, according to an NBA insider. So with the news of Delonte West, I’ve been lax in my coverage of today’s NBA headlines. Any notion Cavs fans had of a sign and trade with the Golden State Warriors is likely gone. $67M for 6 years. The Golden State Warriors have signed Monta Ellis , their marquee restricted free agent to that deal. It may not seem like it means much, everyone knew the Warriors were going to sign Ellis, they had to. But with a slew of restricted free agents out there waiting things out, this contract will set the bar. From the Warriors' perspective, they had to sign him. Apparently Chris Mullin enjoyed his time in Vegas, got some time in by the pool, then came home and decided to clean the slate on his offseason To-Do list all in a matter of days. Here's a little sneak peak at that list. 1. Match Kelenna Azubuike . 2. Re-sign Monta Ellis to a 6 year, $67 Million contract . 3. Pick up dry cleaning. 4. I have to say, Chris Mullin is having a mind-boggling off-season. He loses Baron Davis, drags his heels on Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins, drafted another skinny forward who doesn't fit in with Nellyball, overpays Ronny Turiaf and their big signing, Corey Maggette, is basically a similar player as Jason Richardson, whom they just dealt away. He's built a spectacularly average team with ...The Warriors Might Actually Be Alright This Season ... Or, At Least, Interesting

The simplistic version of Golden State: A man named Baron Davis took a team on his back, made Stephen Jackson sane, found the kernel of truth in Nellie ball, and made them a respectable team in the unforgiving West. Now he's gone, the team's squarely in the hands of lightning-quick combo guard Monta Ellis, and decline is imminent. Lest Don Nelson be caught without a backup plan should Monta Ellis clash with his assumed new role as point guard of the Warriors, the team traded a future protected pick to New Jersey for Marcus Williams , according to the New York Post . According to Marc Stein, the Warriors might just sign Lou Williams to an offer sheet . Apparently they want to corner the market on Monta Ellis's, poor-man's version or otherwise.
