Coach Wayne Fleming is on his way back to Canada after Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League parted ways with him in the middle of a game. In a bizarre decision, Fleming found out he was fired by the club during the second intermission of their game against Vityaz Podolsk on Thursday. ...

Wayne Fleming Fired DURING GAME!!!!
The Program — How often do you see this? I was watching this game on a live stream yesterday when I was stunned to not see Wayne Fleming on the bench to start the third period. The folks at EuroSport had no idea what happened for awhile as well. Of course, when everyone found out that Fleming had been fired...people were stunned and rightfully so!!! The weird thing is assistant coach Igor Nikitin took over for Avangard Omsk in the third period and the team ralled to beat Vityaz Podolsk 2-1 in KHL action. Fleming may not be the greatest coach in the world. I have heard several comments from people that live in Canada to the ...

Jagr's KHL Coach Fired
The New York Rangers Blog — Avanguard Omsk coach Wayne Fleming was fired by the club during the second intermission of their game against Vityaz Podolsk yesterday reports TSN. Avangard was losing 1-0 at the time of Fleming's firing and rallied to win the game 2-1 in overtime under assistant coach Igor Nikitin. If you remember, Jaromir Jagr hand-picked Fleming to run the club. ...man, can it get any worse for Jagr over in Russia. Maybe there's some merit to Eklund's rumor that the Devils are trying to woo Jagr. Eklund? Merit? Nah.

Afternoon Delight: Sioux v. Gophers Tonight
IllegalCurve.com — Scott Burnside and Pierre Lebrun of ESPN talks realignment. I don’t think a little tweaking would hurt. In what has to be a first (maybe?), Avangard Omsk head coach Wayne Fleming was fired during the 2nd intermission of a KHL game. What the heck? Just when  I thought I had heard everything. Jim Kelley with some news and notes on the NHL over at Sports Illustrated. A look at the Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks of the CCHA. 3000 miles to your closest opponent!? This is a couple days old, but Craig Custance (and others) have some cool ideas ...

The KHL: Where Darius Kasparaitis is an all-star, and head coaches are fired during intermission
Puck Daddy — Meanwhile, in the Kontinental Hockey League, Avangard Omsk Coach Wayne Fleming was fired during the second intermission of his team's game against Vityaz Podolsk on Thursday, according to TSN. And all we usually get here in the NHL are three-minute midget hockey games and Zamboni fumes between periods ... Fleming, a former assistant coach with the Calgary Flames and Philadelphia Flyers, was recruited by Omsk star Jaromir Jagr to come to the KHL and coach his team. The move will inevitably fuel speculation that Jagr wants to return to the NHL, because that's what happens whenever Jagr's name is mentioned in ...

What We Learned: Agh brain no workie
The Two-Line Pass — Because I tend to not blog on the weekends, here is a feature that will run through the entire season. It aims to recap the weekend’s events and boils those events down to one admittedly superficial fact about each team. And hell, there’s a ton of other crap for me to blather on about too. And yes, I’m totally ripping off just about every other blogger ever’s weekly column, but that’s something you’ll have to deal with on your own time. Danger: This post contains language that some people might not like. This will be the only thing on the site that regularly does so. I got a couple of e-mails about the lack ...
