ESPN is reporting that the Phillies reached a deal with Geoff Jenkins : The Philadelphia Phillies and free agent outfielder Geoff Jenkins have reached preliminary agreement on a two-year deal believed to be worth about $13 million, a baseball source told ESPN.com. The agreement includes a third year vesting option based on plate appearances that could increase Jenkins' total package to $20 million, the source said. The Phillies have dropped out of the running for free agent pitcher Kyle Lohse, but have agreed to terms with free agent outfielder Geoff Jenkins. Phillies Sign Geoff Jenkins Jenkins is a nice fit for the Phillies. It looks to be about $6MM for the first year and $7MM for year two, which I think is disastrously high. This means the Phillies arbitrary $10MM to spend this offseason has been reached (and a bit overdrawn). Does it mean the Phils are finished spending? I hope not. As far as the team’s needs for 2008, they can still use another starter and another back-end reliever.
