Alas, the Reds need to rebuild. That means trading right fielder Ken Griffey Jr., left fielder Adam Dunn and any other veterans who can bring a return. It means promoting outfielder Jay Bruce and any other prospects who can make a difference. It means committing to the future, once and for all. The Reds seem prepared to at least consider such measures; Jocketty recently asked Griffey if he ... [link]

Rosenthal: Win-now focus in Cincy could mean heavy action And other superdroid Robothalicks… --Derek Jeter, who missed five games with a strained left quadriceps in early April, again ranks near the bottom of AL shortstops in range factor and zone rating. Jeter, however, says that he improved his explosiveness and first-step quickness by altering his offseason training regimen, and bench coach Rob Thomson says he notices a difference. “I say to (third base coach) Bobby Meacham every day, it’s unbelievable how much better he’s moving than last year,” Thomson says. ... --Twins ...

... From the latest Ken Rosenthal column: The Rangers could have crumbled after learning that manager Ron Washington was in danger of getting fired. Instead, they've won five straight series, and their offseason acquisitions of outfielders Josh Hamilton and Milton Bradley look like winners. As the team continues its development program, one of its next major decisions is the future position of shortstop Michael Young. Most scouts agree that Young no longer has the range to play short. But the Rangers aren't about to rush Class AA shortstop Elvis ...

... JUST WHAT THEY NEED: As if the Sox didn't have enough troubles, they'll be facing Daniel Cabrera this afternoon. In an item in his weekly notes column, Foxsports.com's Ken Rosenthal says the talented but eccentric right-hander is finally get his act together, which may create a do-we-trade-him-or-do-we-keep-him? quandry for the rebuilding Orioles. ...

Young at heart

... Fox's Ken Rosenthal published an article the other day bringing up the Michael Young issue, something that was mentioned last year. The problem: Michael Young started his career as a second baseman and when the Rangers traded for Alfonso Soriano, Young volunteered to move to shortstop after Soriano bitched about playing the outfield (which he was forced to do as a National under Frank Robinson years later). Well, Soriano's gone, and Young's still at shortstop, where his ability to field the position is worsening. Furthermore, Elvis Andrus, currently in ...

Trading Jr. does not equal 'rebuilding'
Published 5/16/2008 by Deshawn Zombie (noreply@blogger.com) at 18 to 88
Ken Rosenthal of Foxsports.com argues that the Reds might enter a 'rebuilding' phase soon. This season is currently on the brink for sure. Despite winning 4 of 5, the Reds know full well that the next two weeks hold the key for which direction this season is going. The start has been horrible, but one certainly wonders if it is even possible to hit under .150 with RISP and two outs for the season. I'm not challenging the premise of the article (Reds may trade Dunn/Griffey), just the terminology. Personally, I see no reason ...
