Teixeira Update
Published 7/27/2007 by Will Schaffer at Chop-n-Change
... Update: Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that the Braves have offered a package of Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Matt Harrison, and Elvis Andrus for Mark Teixeira; no relievers, just Teixeira. Rosenthal says that this trade would be a coup for Rangers GM Jon Daniels and I agree completely. I would be beside myself if this happened but I call BS! A front office leaking false information is quite common but come on, give Schuerholz some credit, he isn’t an idiot. This sounds like somthing to try and start a bidding war with the Dodgers and Angels. I wouldn’t put much faith in this rumor, but if it is true, we should know by tomorrow because there is no way 1.) anyone else is going to top this and 2.) the Rangers would turn this down. ...

... . for one thing, rosenthal says, the chances of an isringhausen trade are remote: "Isringhausen, who turns 35 on Sept. 7, might require a team to exercise his $8 million option to waive his no-trade protection. Many clubs would balk, given Isringhausen's history of injuries." for another thing, the dodgers are no longer looking for relievers --- after a rash of injuries in their rotation (brad penny is the latest to go out, with a groin injury), they need starters. looper? well, maybe they'd take him, but i wouldn't expect them (or any team) to give up much. after last night's win, loop has an era of 4.85 and an era+ of 83; mike maroth had an era of 5.06 (in the dh league) and an era+ of 87 when the cardinals traded for him --- and the cards gave up nothing more than a PTBNL. both players are under club control for one more year, so they're pretty comparable, right? not so fast: ...

... According to Ken Rosenthal's sources, the Braves have made an offer to the Rangers for Mark Teixeira: Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Matt Harrison, and Elvis Andrus. That's without any relievers coming back to Atlanta. That's three young players all with a chance to become above-average big league regulars. You couldn't really criticize Daniels for it, no matter how it turned out. ...

FOX: Rosenthal - Red Sox still working on deal for Dye
Published 7/28/2007 at BBTF's Baseball Primer Newsblog
FOX: Rosenthal - Red Sox still working on deal for Dye The Red Sox had a three-way deal in place to acquire White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye earlier this week, but the trade fell through because of an unspecified issue with a player from the third club, according to an industry source. Dye, who is a free agent at the end of the season, was willing to consider waiving his limited no-trade protection to join the Red Sox in exchange for guarantees about playing time and incentive bonuses, the source said. The Sox told Dye that they were prepared to play him five days a week. It is unclear how they would have created the playing time, considering that they are set in all three outfield positions and the DH spot. ... It is believed the teams are continuing discussions, though the Red Sox evidently did not want to meet the White Sox s price for Dye, prompting the clubs to involve a third team. It seems like every year, Theo Epstein tries cooking up a complex deal that always falls flat. I wouldn't expect this one to be any different, although it would give the Red Sox an embarrassment of riches at DH. Similarly, it'd be fun to watch Jermaine try to tame Fenway's strange right field. He's not exactly Dwight Evans. *********************** Looks like I'll be sinking more money into the Pale Hose later today, but maybe this time it'll help me get some cash back. ... Random news: Ken Rosenthal says the Sox had a three-way trade in place for Jermaine Dye, but it fell through. Are we really going to bench J.D.
