Slim pickins this year means it's a seller's market. Jermaine Dye isn't exactly tearing it up, either.

Teixeira to Atlanta
Published 7/30/2007 by redsock at The Joy of Sox
Ken Rosenthal reports that Texas will trade 1B Mark Teixeira and LHP Ron Mahay to Atlanta for C Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Class A shortstop Elvis Andrus and two pitching prospects. I would have liked to see Teixeira in Boston, but the offensive upgrade from Youkilis or Lowell was not enough to part with two of the only three propsects opposing terms are asking for: Clay Buccholz, Jacoby Ellsbury or Jon Lester. The silver lining here is that Brian Cashman feels the same way about the Yankees' pitching prospects. Another ...

Tex to the Braves, Dye to do something
Published 7/30/2007 by MattTheRock at Sox Machine: Chicago White Sox blog
Tex to the Braves, Dye to do something Looks like we are finally starting to see some big action on the trading front, as numerous sources are reporting that Mark Teixeira to the Braves is all but complete. The Rangers will be receiving stud prospect Jarrod Saltamacchia, A-ball shortstop Elvis Andrus, and two pitching prospects for Teixeira and bullpen lefty Ron Mahay. Just in time for the Rockies to get into town. Fantastic. Now the fun begins, as all of the teams who missed out on Tex now have to move to find other options. Jermaine Dye has now come back into the thoughts of many suitors as their solutions to their power shortage. Of course, no one seems to know for sure what exactly is going on yet... Option #1: For those who saw Baseball Tonight yesterday, Peter Gammons took a minute to wax poetic about Dye possibly being moved to the Red Sox. Since conflicting reports are the norm at this time of year, it's hard to say what ...

Deadline blues
Published 7/30/2007 by Pat at Where have you gone, Andy Van Slyke?
... That brings us to this deadline. Everyone's hopes (mine included) for the future of the Pirates rest on whoever Bob Nutting hires as the new CEO of the team when the season ends. The thing that really concerns me is that while we're waiting, the same old people that run this team are allowed to handle another trade deadline. This year there seems to be a pretty clear seller's market that exists. The Brewers overpaid for Scott Linebrink. The Braves just overpaid for Mark Teixeira. The Red Sox are allegedly close to overpaying for Jermaine Dye. And yet, I can assure you that if the Pirates make any deals at this deadline, whoever ends up with Salomon Torres or Damaso Marte or (God forbid) someone else even more valuable to this team will be sitting in their office tomorrow afternoon with a shit-eating grin saying, "Can you believe Littlefield caved like that! I know everyone said he'd drop his asking price at zero hour, but I never ...

Is Milton Bradley Baseball's Best Midseason Acquisition?
Published 9/1/2007 by Phillips at Epic Carnival - Pop Culture, Sports, Celebrities, Babes, Rumors, Innuendo
... Since arriving, Bradley has single-handedly reanimated the Padres corpse of an offense. In 33 games he's hitting .345 with 10 home runs, 27 RBI and 27 runs. He's also carrying a .441 on base percentage and slugging .655 while playing phenomenally in left field. Those numbers would likely be even better if he hadn't missed 16 games with a hamstring problem and a strained oblique. Other than Mark Teixeira there hasn't been anyone who can even claim to be as good a mid-season acquisition as Bradley. To compare, Teixeira in 27 games with the Braves, is hitting .327 with 10 home runs, 32 RBIs and 20 runs. He has a .416 on base percentage and is slugging .664. The Braves also had to part with a wealth of prospects to acquire Teixeira, whereas the Padres only sent ...
