Brett Favre Finally Retires; Un-Retirement Set for Training Camp
Published 3/4/2008 at JoeSportsFan.com
... And yet, Jay Glazer was the first to report Favre has called it a career. Just hours after the Patriots resigned Randy Moss, Favre informed Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy he was done. The cynic inside me says the Packers' inability to sign Randy Moss was the final straw that put Favre into (temporary) retirement. ...

Breaking news: Brett Favre will retire. Use the diary I put up for discussion. Warrick Dunn was released by the Falcons, making way for the Michael Turner era. I'll always remember Warrick Dunn for being friggin' awesome in NFL 2K1 for Dreamcast. Randy Moss re-signed with the Patriots. It's a three-year deal worth $15 million in guarantees. Former Chief Sammy Knight is now a New York Giant. The Giants may also be interested in Trent Green as a back up for Eli Manning. Speaking of Trent Green, ...

Neither GM Ted Thompson nor head coach Mike McCarthy returned several calls left by FOXSports.com for confirmation.
After flirting with retirement for the last few years, Favre will finally go out on the heels of one of the best seasons of his career.

FAVRE TO RETIRE
Published 3/4/2008 by Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com
Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that Packers quarterback Brett Favre is retiring . The news also is being reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald , citing Favre’s brother, Scott, as the source. We’ll let someone else figure out who had it first. Glazer says that it’s believed that Favre has informed the team of the decision within the past few days, and that it’s not known when the team will announce it. (Maybe they were getting ready to do so last week when that “breaking news” item regarding Favre’s decision to call it quits showed up on their live web site.) But the ...
BREAKING NEWS: Favre Retires
Published 3/4/2008 by Doug Farrar at Football Outsiders
BREAKING NEWS: Favre Retires It’s not a dummy page at packers.com this time, kids. Brett Favre, perhaps the greatest quarterback in NFL history (certainly in the argument) has decided to call it a career, according to FOX’s Jay Glazer. Glazer reports that Favre may have told the Packers of his decision a few days ago. Barring a change of heart (and we all know THAT’s not out of the question), someone’s gonna have to wake up Aaron Rogers and get him throwing. Favre, of course, will head home to Mississippi after a retirement press conference with his own chapter of the NFL ...
Brett Favre Retires. Seriously This Time. [Brett Favre Retires]
Published 3/4/2008 by Leitch at Deadspin
The day you thought would never come has finally arrived: Brett Favre\ has decided to retire. Let the Craig Nall era begin!
We'll have more about this later today, but we would like to note, as many already have, that Favre's final play was, of course, an awful interception that cost his team a chance at the Super Bowl. But the man was gutty. And enormous fun, of course.
And wore a mean pair of cutoff shorts, that's for damned sure.
Oh, and if he changes his mind in the next week, we're not covering it. He wouldn't dare.

I know we have been down this road before, but Packers QB Brett Favre is as much a part of Bears history for the last decade plus, that it is almost Bears news. FOX Sports is reporting that the mighty gunslinger is set to pack up his spurs and ride off into the sunset. Favre, the ultimate risk-reward QB, has beaten the Bears so many times he probably has a paddle with our name on it hanging up over his mantle. At the same time he has handed us the game just as many times with irreverent passing he might as well have a locker at Soldier Field. I don't know if this is actually going to be the year he tosses in the towel, but it just seems right. He had his run last year, ...

By Chris Mottram Jay Glazer at FOX Sports . Good for you, buddy, for being the first to report what we reported here last week (even though none of you believed it -- and neither did we, really). Although, you'll get no credit because Chris Mortenson will take the glory from this battle field! No one breaks stories like Mort, even though his career scoop accuracy percentage (a totally official fantasy journalism statistic) is hovering around the Mendoza Line. And yeah, I totally got ahead of myself here. In case you didn't know, Favre is officially dunzo. We ...
Brett Favre Has Decided to Finally Retire
Published 3/4/2008 at FanIQ Blog
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is breaking the news that Brett Favre has decided to call it a career.
Seeing as how the Packers haven't made any moves to help the offense in free agency, this decision is hardly a surprise. What is a bit of a shock, is that he decided to soon. I figured we'd be doing this dance with Favre until early summer.
Is there any doubt not signing Randy Moss played a role?
As a Chicago fan I give him the highlight compliment in that I've admired his play more ...

Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com and the BILOXI SUN-HERALD are the first we could find to break the news of Brett Favre’s retirement today. Looks like the real deal. Bigger shock than Favre’s retirement? ESPN recognized that Glazer and FOXSports.com broke the story . Of course, it is also interesting to note that someone may have tipped you off to the very real possibility last night . We were pooh-poohed by a half-dozen or so MSM folks via email (who shall now remain nameless) for our making the connection between Randy Moss not signing with the Packers and ...

... Long. That leaves Barron and Pace as our starting tackles this season. That could be fine, health permitting. However, the draft is heavy on tackles and they could still get a solid prospect in the second round, someone they wouldn't have to pay so much to spend his season as a backup. I don't know, but it at least opens up lots of possibilities. I still think, depending on who's available, an OT with their early second round pick would be a good move. I'm kind of in shock that Farve's retiring.
