Managers On The Hot Seat… #1 Willie Randolph
Published 3/26/2008 by Dave at The Mets Report
Willie Randolph is number one on a recent list of managers that need to win now. The Mets aren’t built for the future. They traded some of that away for Johan Santana. Professional sports teams don’t have “rebuilding” years in New York, especially with a new stadium coming next season. The Mets are built to win now. It’s difficult to even write about “The Collapse” of last season. It was devastating for fans, players, and management. Willie Randolph was at the helm and will be remembered with Gene Mauch’s 1964 Phillies as the worst late season drop ever. I have to agree with Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. Willie has to win now or ...

Cerebral Blockage

A-Rod wants to be a Met... Old news. I mean, who doesn't want to be a Met? However, when A-Rod says things like this, it makes me want to throw a live badger at this head and watch the hilarity that ensues. Great, {sniff, sniff} A-Rod's all grown up and mature. He chased the money and did not want to make the same mistake again by leaving the Yankees....except he signed the type of contract that usually accompanied by 'US Government' and 'Lockheed Martin' in the same sentence. Of course, A-Rod is still the best player on the field and there may be a shred of sour grapes in what I am saying. It would be impossible for me to not think about the 'what ifs' and what would it have been like ...

Rosenthal: Randolph tops list of managers on the hot seat
Published 3/26/2008 at BBTF's Baseball Primer Newsblog
Rosenthal: Randolph tops list of managers on the hot seat Real-world Robothals in the morning workforce! John Gibbons, Blue Jays: This is it. The Jays must reach the postseason — or come awfully close — for Gibbons and possibly Ricciardi to return. The team is again good enough to make such a run, but only if healthy. Gibbons will need to show greater care with his starting pitchers and take whatever other measures are necessary to ensure that his best players remain on the field. Again, leadership often must come from within the clubhouse, and the additions of third baseman ...

Read: Willie is on the Hot Seat
Published 3/27/2008 by Matthew Cerrone at MetsBlog.com
According to Ken Rosenthal at FoxSports.com, Willie Randolph is among six managers who are ‘on the hot seat,’ i.e., men who could potentially be fired this season. Rosenthal writes of Randolph, among other comments: “Anything less than a postseason berth - and maybe a first-round playoff triumph - could endanger both Randolph and GM Omar Minaya…Randolph did not deserve to be fired after last season.  His lack of outward passion drew criticism, but if he had shown more emotion, he might have given the appearance of panic… “Strategy often is less important than personality; ...
