Darren McCarty fought and the Red Wings beat up the Avalanche. The Avalanche, to give them due, beat up an octopus. Aided greatly by Johan Franzen's first career hat trick midway through the third period, the Wings claimed a 5-1 victory at Joe Louis Arena before a sold-out crowd of 20,066. The Wings have a 2-0 lead as the Western Conference semifinal shifts to Colorado for the next two games. ... [link]
