Published 2/12/2008 by gondeee <info@talkingchop.com> at Talking Chop: Front Page Posts
As part of what will hopefully be a series of Q&A's with several of the top prospect gurus around the league, we begin with Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus. Kevin recently released his list of the top-11 Braves prospects. If you're a regular reader here you'll know that I reference Goldstein all the time. 1. Tampa Bay Rays Last Year's Ranking : 1 Why They're Unchanged : Evan Longoria 's full-season debut went even better than expected, and they added No. 1 overall pick David Price to the system. Strengths : Yes. There are just tons of prospects everywhere, as 20 of MLB's 30 teams don't have one prospect ranked higher than Tampa's fifth-rated player. Weaknesses : It's hard to figure out what to do with all of this talent. Seriously, they're not just No. 1, they're No. 1 by a mile. Outlook for 2009 Ranking : Unchanged. Even with Longoria in the big leagues, the Rays have more than enough talent to remain at the top, and ...

... also frees the Giants from $8.125 million owed to Winn for 2009. Trading for Winn benefits the Braves as well. Kotsay is currently on the DL, though he is returning soon, and Francoeur is struggling (.252/.301/.416). Most of the Braves' top prospects are struggling this year, but a package of Winn + reliever + money eating on the Giants' part could net a couple with upside. Lillibridge, Hernandez, and Flowers are potential names. Braves' prospects: BP's Braves Top 11 Prospects: Jan 15, 2008 John Sickels' Atlanta Braves 2008 ...
